San Diego (KGTV) — San Diego has several New Years Eve fireworks shows. While we may enjoy the sparkle and booms, your pets may run for their lives.“You don’t want to have them outside where all those loud fireworks are going off,” said San Diego Humane Society spokeswoman Dariel Walker. The organization sees a sudden spike in stray animals around this time of year, she said.Just like on July 4th, many pets who are terrified of loud noises run off in a panic. Walker suggested that owners prevent that by creating a calming environment for animals. “You can even even play music or have the TV on or have some noise in the background to drown out that loud sound of the fireworks,” Walker said. Walker advised pet owners to be prepared with a microchip in case they do run away. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego police are investigating a series of scooter thefts that happened in the North Park neighborhood.Three scooters were stolen blocks from each other and reported one day apart.One was reported Tuesday in the 4800 block of Kansas Street.  Another two were reported stolen on Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police announced Thursday the arrest of a mother accused of driving her SUV the wrong way in Rancho Bernardo, causing a head-on crash that injured her children and an innocent driver.Mayra Gonzalez, 29, was drunk when she drove her Chevy Suburban east in the westbound lanes of Camino del Norte west of Interstate 15 Monday morning, police said.The Suburban hit a Jeep Liberty, seriously injuring the 57-year-old man in the Jeep.Gonzalez’ three children were in the car at the time of the crash. Her 8-year-old and 2-year-old daughters had minor injuries but her 9-month-old daughter, who was unrestrained, suffered life-threatening injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents in one San Diego neighborhood have grown increasingly worried over reports of large boulders being left in the streets - in some cases, on top of vehicles.Golden Hill residents have reported the boulders appearing at 19th and Broadway, 26th and Broadway, Date Street, and the Golden Pacific Complex.At times, some of the boulders have been covered with cardboard or blankets."It's way too easy, with the way they're positioned, for someone to jump in their car like they do every day and take off and end up running over a giant boulder," said Benn Bruff.Bruff says a 25-pound boulder was placed in the wheel well of his girlfriend's car. Luckily they spotted it before she drove away. San Diego Police tell 10News the issue is very concerning. They are looking for more information and any description of the person responsible. Police says the person could face vandalism charges or obstruction of a roadway. If a driver were to hit a boulder and get in a serious accident the charges could be more severe. 10News reporter Amanda Brandeis spoke with a resident who knows the damage the rocks can cause first hand on 10News at 6 p.m.Councilman Chris Ward's office issued a statement to 10News, saying they are in contact with San Diego Police Department regarding the issue:"We were made aware of this issue by constituents over the weekend and share the concern for the safety of residents and car owners being impacted by this. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate sent a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom's office on Monday, asking that comedy clubs in San Diego be allowed to reopen safely.The letter requests that performances be allowed to reopen in outdoor settings, with shows lasting no longer than an hour."We're not talking about concerts here where thousands of people are sitting next to each other," Cate said. "These are performances that are done while folks and individuals are having dinner in a restaurant setting, properly distanced, why should they be treated any differently?"Earlier this month, some comedy clubs, like The Comedy Palace in Kearney Mesa, moved their comedy shows outdoors, only to find out they were in violation of public health orders and made to stop.George Salek, co-owner of The Comedy Place, said they have a lot of outdoor space, and people were able to observe social distancing."Eighty people is what we're trying to put in 5,000 square feet," he said. "It's really safe."Cate said San Diego's entertainment industry is an important part of the economy."I think anyone who can fit the confines of what we want to have done," Cate said.
