(AP) — The X Prize Foundation is developing a contest for technology that can detect and extinguish wildfires before they grow too large.X Prize Foundation chairman Peter Diamandis made the announcement Friday at the Near Future Summit in La Jolla, California. Diamandis says it will take about 100 days to develop the rules for the contest. After that, the foundation will try to find a sponsor and launch the competition.Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom joined Diamandis on stage for the announcement. California has experienced its deadliest and most destructive wildfires in history in the past two years.Newsom has solicited proposals from academics, private companies and entrepreneurs for innovative ways to address California's wildfire problem. KENOSHA, Wis. — Multiple buildings were set on fire in Kenosha Monday night amid protests against police brutality, a day after a Black man was shot several times in the back by officers.According to news crews with Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee, the buildings were set ablaze at about 11:30 p.m. local time on Monday night. It is unclear how the fires started, who started them, or when they started. (KGTV) — City crews have started emergency repairs to an unstable cave located underneath a busy La Jolla street.Coast Blvd. was closed late Thursday after experts found weaknesses in Cook's Crack, a sea cave underneath Coast Blvd. near Cave St."We're starting to see above ... the looser, weaker material. That's a trigger right off the bat that, 'Oh my God, we don't have the beefy rock bridging across anymore. The next phase will be to clear out all of the water and fill the cave with a concrete mix.Construction is expected to last about six weeks, closing parts of Coast Blvd. and Cave St.Cook's Crack is located in the area between La Jolla Cove and the popular Cave Store. The strip of road leads down to seaside restaurants and parking for many tourists and residents.The project required the city to quickly close the road before locals realized what the issue was, though businesses and residents were allowed to pass through the area Friday."They said there's been some shift in the road itself," David Heine, owner of nearby Brockton Villa Restaurant, told 10News. KENOSHA, Wisc. — Lucas Jundt is a junior quarterback at Kenosha Indian Trail High School, in Wisconsin who just happens to have prosthetic legs."Since my Dad showed me football, I'm like, I'm going to play that sport!" Jundt said."Yeah, everybody on the team is like 'why is he getting all the fame.' And I'm like, 'sorry for having no feet. I guess they just like that type of stuff!' And it inspires kids to, you know what? Hey, I can get off of my lazy butt and go out there and do something that I love," Jundt said.To his teammates, Jundt is just one of the guys. "They're like 'no mercy for you. We're just gonna go at you.' And I'm like, 'that's fine. I love it,'" Jundt said.Jundt's story of how he got to Kenosha Indian Trail's football field is the stuff of movies. "My parents abandoned me at five days old. I was born with a condition called fibula hemimelia. I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right, sorry doctors! But I was born with that. That's basically missing a fibula," Jundt explained.Born in Inner Mongolia, he was adopted by a Kenosha couple at age seven."They lost three kids. Two to an hour of life. And one for six years. Cancer, and yeah, it was just rough, they went through a lot of hardship and pain. But God said 'you know what? This is not the end of your story. Your story is still continuing. And I am going to let you adopt a son, and two more kids,'" Jundt said of his adoptive parents.Jundt says his faith keeps him going, and remembers a time talking to another media outlet about it. "I remember one news station didn't put it in, and I'm like 'please, put my faith in there.' Because my faith, is what got me here. Because of God. I am here," Jundt says. Jeffrey Sandusky, the son of convicted sex abuser and former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, pleaded guilty Friday to all 14 counts of child sexual abuse against him.The Centre Country district attorney's office said the younger Sandusky, 41, entered the guilty pleas a week before his trial was scheduled to begin.The 14 counts included soliciting sex from a child younger than 16 and soliciting child pornography.According to the district attorney's office, Sandusky will become a Tier III sex offender, the highest level in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."The charges involve incidents with two girls, one in 2013 and one in 2016.The crimes were uncovered late last year when a girl told her father that Sandusky had texted her repeatedly, asking her to send him naked photos.The father contacted the police, and during the investigation, police discovered another girl, known as victim No. 2, who said Sandusky had asked her to engage in oral sex with him years before.Both victims say Sandusky tried to use different excuses to try to get them to participate, saying at one point that he "had studied medicine" and another time that he believed that Victim No. 1 had shared a nude photo with her boyfriend, and he wanted to see it."This outcome also ensures the victims need not suffer the trauma and re-victimization of testifying at trial and importantly, the defendant will have to comply with strict sex offender registration requirements for the remainder of his life," District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said.According to the district attorney's office, the terms of Sandusky's plea guarantee that he will serve 3 to 6 years in state incarceration "but allows the judge to impose as much as 4 to 8 years of state prison in her discretion at the time of sentencing."Tier III offenders must register with the state police for life and verify their registration information in person four times a year," according to the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.Sandusky's defense attorney could not be reached for comment.The-CNN-Wire 2071
