A Southern Arizona school district is taking a creative approach to better sanitize the classroom daily.Santa Cruz Valley School District bought six Power Breezers that will disinfect a classroom in 20 minutes.Superintendent David Verdugo said the school district did this as a cost effective way to provide extra safety and security to students and staff.He said it will be used after school to clean empty classrooms, hallways and even school buses.Each unit costs about 4,500 dollars."This is an opportunity for them to look at a way to sanitize a room in a short period of time and utilize their staff but also be cost effective," Superintendent Verdugo said.He said the district is also requiring all students to wear masks, have their temperature checked, and social distance in and out of the classroom.Every classroom will only be at 50% capacity, meaning 15 desks per room, he said. In order to do this, the district came up with a hybrid approach to learning."There will be a group A and a group B," Superintendent Verdugo said. "The group A students will be on Monday. They will come to school, have their direct instruction and then they will be at home the next day. Then, group B will come to school, but they will still have some interaction that day with assignments and virtual opportunities."He said the district is planning on starting remote learning on August 3 and then the hybrid approach will being on August 31. TAMPA, Fla. — Three generations of one Tampa Bay family say they wound up in oncoming traffic after a blowout involving a newer tire.Steve Nelson says he purchased four new tires last November, but they had just 300 miles on them when he hit the road with his son and grandson in June. The trio left Tampa for a cross country camping trip to Yosemite in California — an adventure that took a scary turn on the drive back home.Steve said he lost control of the truck after the front driver's side tire blew out on I-40 near Gallup New Mexico. “We wound up in the oncoming lane dodging semi-trucks,” he said. Steve a retired insurance manager showed us the invoice for over 0 that he paid to replace the two front tires in New Mexico. The paperwork indicates the tires he bought new last November had about 4,200 miles on them. Normally tires don't need replacing before 30,000 miles or more.During the trip home, Steve stopped at a tire shop in Irvin, Texas and asked that they check the back tires. That Dodge dealer replaced the rear tires and wrote on the invoice that those tires had broken cords. Steve made a call for action after he says Mavis, the shop where he bought the tires, denied his claim for a refund. ABC Action News asked Chris Brazzeal, the owner of Brazzeal Tire in Tampa, to examine the original tires that came off the pickup. Chris showed us bubbling and rubber separation on two of the tires. “That is a clear indication the tire is now coming apart,” said Brazzeal. We contacted both Mavis and the tire manufacturer Vee Rubber. “Mavis is committed to providing safe and high-quality services to our customers. We have been in contact with the customer regarding this issue and have reached out to the tire manufacturer on his behalf to facilitate a resolution,” the company wrote.After we got involved a representative from Vee Rubber flew to Tampa, examined the tires and admitted one of them was defective. A Utah man got quite the scare while hiking in Slate Canyon near Provo, Utah, over the weekend.Kyle Burgess, 26, was minding his own business in the Utah County wilderness around 5 p.m. Saturday when he came across some mountain lion kittens.Seconds later, their mom came around the corner — protective and aggressive. He caught the whole thing on video:“I didn’t really know what kind of cubs they were or what animal they were,” said Burgess. "Once I did realize what they were, I was like, that’s mom right there. I’m screwed.”What made it worse for the Orem man was that the encounter was a lengthy one. The video shows the animal shadowing Burgess for at least six minutes as he walked down the trail.At certain times, the mountain lion lunged at Burgess. But officials said Burgess did all the right things by not turning around, making himself "bigger," and making a lot of noise.The mountain lion kept following Burgess down the trail before he bent down and threw a rock, sending the animal running away.
