BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping urged officials with the Communist Party of China (CPC) to play more important roles when dealing with the international financial crisis.     Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark during a conference Tuesday.     Xi asked officials to make public promises that they would better implement their duties to Party members and non-party people.     The official also urged Party officials to carry out the central government's policies designed to keep steady economic growth and improve the people's lives using practical measures.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese leader has urged Shanghai, the country's major economic hub, to use the global financial crisis as a driving force to pursue economic restructuring. Jia Qinglin (C), chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visits Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Equipment Co. Ltd., in Shanghai, east China, on Dec. 20, 2008. Jia Qinglin paid a visit to Shanghai from Dec. 19 to Dec. 21.     Shanghai should focus on developing equipment manufacturing, modern logistics, financial services, electronic commerce, culture innovations and capsulation, said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), during his trip to Shanghai from Dec. 19-21 .     Shanghai should try to establish a new advantage in competition and make use of its advantage of having a strong power in science and technology, said Jia.     The city should center its economic growth on increasing domestic demands while trying every means to maintain a stable growth in export, the CPPCC leader said.     During his stay in the city, Jia visited an exhibition on the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and studied the construction of the expo zone, with company of Shanghai Party Chief Yu Zhengsheng and Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng. He urged the city to do a good job in preparations for the world expo. BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government vowed to beef up vocational training for migrant workers, college graduates and laid-off workers, who were badly hit by the global financial crisis, to help them land jobs, according to a joint circular issued by three ministries.     Local government should offer the migrant workers necessary training to help them find jobs in the railway and infrastructure construction, power sector and rebuilding of the quake-hit areas, according to the joint circular issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.     Vocational schools and technical training institutions should enhance training for people who were affected by the crisis, and work out programs to help them find new jobs, said the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Sunday.     China's urban unemployment rate was 4.2 percent at the end of 2008, up 0.2 percentage points year on year, according to official figures.

BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said on Wednesday that increased environment protection efforts would help significantly to boost domestic demand and open new economic growth points. China would continue to make environmental protection a priority to benefit the people and ensure a stable economy, he told the annual meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).     China faced difficult tasks in protecting its environment as itwas the world's biggest developing country with huge economic growth potential. BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday outlined a series of proposals for local governments to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).     Touring SMEs in the southern province of Guangdong, Wen said SMEs would play a crucial role in promoting economic growth, increasing fiscal revenue, providing jobs and maintaining social stability.
