Those looking to send Christmas cards and packages through the post office are starting to run out of time to ship, according to USPS. And if you're going to the post office, note that lines could be long. Today marks the projected busiest day at the post office this year. USPS officials expect post offices to remain busy throughout the week. To assist, USPS has expanded its Sunday delivery program, with the post office expecting to make 8 million deliveries each Sunday in December. Also for an additional fee, USPS will make deliveries on Christmas Day for Priority Mail Express shipments. The US Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday it is investigating a possible connection between e-cigarette use and seizures in younger users.In a public notice the agency reported "a recent uptick in voluntary reports of adverse experiences with tobacco products that mentioned seizures occurring with e-cigarette use (e.g., vaping)" signaling "a potential emerging safety issue."Since June 2018, the FDA said it has "observed a slight but noticeable increase in reports of seizures" connected with e-cigarette use."After examining poison control centers' reports between 2010 and early 2019, the FDA determined that, between the poison control centers and the FDA, there were a total of 35 reported cases of seizures mentioning use of e-cigarettes within that timeframe," the notice says. "Due to the voluntary nature of these case reports, there may be more instances of seizure in e-cigarette users than have been reported."FDA commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb released an accompanying statement explaining why the agency was releasing the information."We want to be clear that we don't yet know if there's a direct relationship between the use of e-cigarettes and a risk of seizure. We can't yet say for certain that e-cigarettes are causing these seizures," he said."We're sharing this early information with the public because as a public health agency, it's our job to communicate about potential safety concerns associated with the products we regulate that are under scientific investigation by the agency. Biden’s campaign has struggled to raise money to have the sort of advertising that Bloomberg and Sanders have. But with several major endorsements, Biden has seen his share of free advertising through news reports and buzz around the campaign. Bloomberg’s entrySuper Tuesday marks the first time Bloomberg will be competing for votes. He has spent some of his fortune to put his message before voters. For instance, on Sunday during primetime, he took out advertising on several major networks to talk about the coronavirus. He also purchased ad time during the Super Bowl. But Bloomberg also did not see much of a boost coming out of two debates, his first of which involved attacks from Warren about his handling of non-disclosure agreements with his employees. What polling saysRecent polls have Sanders ahead nationally, and in leading in many Super Tuesday states including Texas and California. A caveat though is those polls were conducted before Saturday, and how Buttigieg, Klobuchar and Steyer voters sway could determine who wins the majority of delegates on Super Tuesday. How it could play outSuper Tuesday could give some clarity as to whether the race will be decided during the primary season, or at the Democratic National Convention in July. A candidate is required to win 1991 pledged delegates going into the convention. Failure to win a majority of delegates will result in hundreds of so-called “Super Delegates” to cast a ballot during a second round of voting. How likely of a scenario is a brokered convention? Election forecast site 538 gives the odds of a brokered convention at 2 out of 3. But the site also gives both Sanders and Biden a one in six chance to win the nomination outright. Why 15% matters?In order to gain delegates from a state, earning 15% of the vote is the minimum threshold. Thousands of pro-gun rights activists converged around the Virginia Capitol on Monday to voice opposition to gun control legislation proposed by the Democratic-held legislature.Among the vocal critics of the bills were members of law enforcement, who used their official office to advocate against some of the proposals. The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page its support for the protest. The sheriff’s office also posted photos of deputies in uniform holding a sign saying, “we support the second amendment.”“Great turnout for 2A rally in Richmond today! Standing room only!!” the post read. Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins also attended the rally to show his support. He said he would deputize gun owners if Virginia lawmakers move forward with gun legislation. It is unclear if said deputies would have arrest power.“My intent was to swear in thousands of auxiliary deputy sheriffs and make it legal for them to possess the weapons that they're trying to ban and restrict,” Jenkins said. Dozens of sheriffs in Virginia have stated that their departments would not enforce gun laws they feel are unconstitutional. Jenkins suggested, but would not directly answer, whether his department would enforce state laws involving gun control if Democrats move forward with legislation.“I'll have to make a determination if these laws they pass or a violation of that,” Jenkins said. Although thousands gathered in Richmond to protest gun legislation, Gov. Ralph Northam said there was a reason why Democrats were elected in Virginia. In his State of the Commonwealth address earlier this week, Northam referenced the legislature’s response to a mass shooting at a Virginia Beach municipal complex last year as a reason why Democrats gained a majority in the Virginia House for the first time in nearly three decades. “Virginians watched. They saw what happened, and they were appalled. So they changed the legislature. And here we are,” Northam said. While a bill to ban assault weapons was dropped earlier last week, other bills are still being considered. One is limiting the purchases of firearms to one a month.Earlier this month, Northam signed legislation to prohibit firearms inside of the Capitol building and an adjacent legislative office building. Another one of the more controversial bills is a so called “red flag” law, which would allow for law enforcement to take away firearms from gun owners who are considered a danger to themselves or others. Northam defended this legislation as “constitutional.” “If you have demonstrated extreme risk of violence, or there’s a protective order against you, you shouldn’t have a firearm. This means universal background checks. If there’s nothing in your record, you have nothing to worry about,” the governor said. Jenkins isn’t convinced. “Right now, it's hard to say that we're going to disarm our citizens who often have a 10- or 15-minute response time in rural areas for an officer to arrive and say we're going to disarm the homeowner and restrict their rights to defend themselves,” the sheriff said.
