SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Southern California's theme parks are gearing up for holiday fun starting this month.Disneyland, California Adventure, Legoland, and more welcome in the holidays this month with several special events, parades, activities, and treats for guests to enjoy.Here's a look at what parks are planning this holiday season for guests and when the fun begins:Disneyland: The holidays return to Disneyland Park from Nov. 8 through Jan. 6, 2020, bringing fireworks, parades, and delicious treats to Anaheim. Disney characters create a magical winter wonderland during the "Believe ... in Holiday Magic" fireworks show and "A Christmas Fantasy" parade with Elsa, Mickey, Santa, and others. Guests can check out the park's 60-foot Christmas tree on Main Street, and Sleeping Beauty's Castle dressed for the holidays every day. Of course, the Haunted Mansion celebrates the holidays with Jack Skellington, and "it's a small world" will be dressed to impress in more than 50,000 lights. Guests will also find holiday treats throughout the park this season.California Adventure Park: Disney's Festival of Holidays runs Nov. 8 through Jan. 6, 2020, at California Adventure Park, bringing sunset concerts, festive foods, and craft stations to the park. The park's "Disney ?Viva Navidad! Street Party" ushers in the season with folklórico and samba dancers, and Cars Land zooms into the holidays with special decorations and Luigi's Joy to the Whirl and Mater's Jingle Jamboree attractions. Santa Claus will also be in town at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, where guests can visit him. And every night, the "World of Color — Season of Light" light and laser show.Legoland California: Legoland's holiday fun runs Nov. 23 through Dec. 31, with cheer around every turn. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is introducing a pilot program aimed at reducing fines and plans to move to a zero-emission fleet by 2040.MTS' Board of Directors approved the pilot program recently that will give fare violators new options to pay citations and lower fines. Under the new policy starting in September:Passengers have 120 days to pay fines to MTS in-person at the Transit Store or by mail;Passengers who can't pay a fine can instead perform 3-4 hours of community service through the San Diego Food Bank, with more organizations potentially added later;Passengers can appeal a fare violation within 15 days of the citation;Only citations not paid within 120 days will proceed to criminal courts.The transportation agency says it also plans to convert 800 buses to zero-emissions, most of which will be electric, by 2040.Currently, MTS' zero-emissions pilot program includes eight electric buses, and infrastructure and hardware for 12 new charging stations. The pilot program started in October 2018 and costs about .4 million.MTS plans to purchase its last natural gas buses in 2028.The agency operates about 95 bus routes and three Trolley lines in San Diego County. 1227

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's District Attorney's Office Wednesday says the officer who fatally shot a man who had attacked another person with a machete in Southcrest acted in self defense.After review the case and officer's actions, DA Summer Stephen's office says Officer Corey Pitts, who fired upon Vaughn Denham on Aug. 8, 2018, is not criminally liable for the shooting.Denham, 48, has reportedly attacked another person with a machete during an argument over a dog chain. Pitts eventually fired two rounds, striking Denham.Denham later died at the hospital. The Stephen's office says a toxicology report showed phencyclidine (PCP), cannabinoids, and methamphetamine in his system."Based on these circumstances, Pitts fired at Denham in his own defense," the office's review states. "He therefore bears no state criminal liability for his actions."In addition to clearing Pitts of any criminal wrongdoing, the DA's office released nearly two minutes of body camera footage from the incident. 1751

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some workers hit hard by the pandemic are now turning to an entrepreneur program at San Diego Miramar College.In late March, Billie Guinto got word that her job booking events for an event planning agency was put on pause by COVID-19."My first reaction was dread ... If this lasts too long, I'm going to deplete my savings," said Guinto.Guinto tried to sign up for unemployment but has yet to hear back. She renewed her realtor license and then decided to take a chance."I had to pivot quickly, and I knew this program was getting off to a really good start," said Guinto.She enrolled in the summer session of Miramar College's REC Innovation Lab, a year-old incubator program aimed at budding entrepreneurs, especially in underrepresented communities.The now-virtual lab includes courses, pitch sessions, networking, and mentoring. For Guinto, the program is helping her grow her big idea."I decided to create All Source Events, an application for professional event planners," said Guinto.Her app will be a one-stop-shop for event planning, from scheduling to marketing to ticketing. Weeks into the program, she's already pitching to possible investors."By the end of summer, I plan to have a working iteration of the app to hand out to event planners to test and work out the kinks," said Guinto.Guinto is one of the dozens of students, many of them jobless, now following their entrepreneur dreams."My attitude changed tremendously, I am excited, hopeful, and confident.
