VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man accused of killing his mother in her Oceanside home pleaded not guilty. He was not granted bail. Quiet and still. Anthony Sardina stood in front of Honorable James Simmons Jr., denying any involvement in his mother's murder. "Not guilty plea is entered on Mr. Sardina's behalf," Judge Simmons said.  The 37-year old is accused of killing his mother, 64-year-old Regina Sardina. The heinous crime was discovered by Anthony's younger brother, who found Regina's body in their Oceanside home Sunday afternoon. The deputy district attorney told reporters for the first time that Sardina used a knife to kill his mother."Anthony Sardina was arraigned on a complaint alleging one count of murder as well as what is known as a 'felony strike prior allegation,' and attached to the murder charges is the allegation that he personally used a knife in the commission of the offense," said deputy district attorney Robert Bruce.After the attack, investigators said Sardina took his mother's car to a nearby Hobby Lobby and caught a cab. Police arrested him shortly after tracking him through the cab company. "Oceanside did a terrific job investigating this offense, bringing it to the DA's office, we charged it quickly, and the case continues to be investigated," Bruce said. 10News found Anthony Sardina has a lengthy criminal felony record, with arrests dating back to 2009, and as recently as July 31st of this year. This ultimately led to him getting no bail. "The judge said no bail on the case, both on the murder charge, because of the nature of the charge, and the fact that he is on probation from a prior offense, which carries no bail," Bruce said. If found guilty, Sardina faces 51 years to life in prison.   1791

The North San Diego County city invites you to celebrate its history this Sunday at the annual Vista Strawberry Festival. In the 1960s and 1970s, strawberries from Vista were shipped around the world. The crates were so popular, strawberries in the Netherlands became known as “vistas”, according to the festival’s website. The community celebration, to be held May 26, brings events including a run, Little Ms. Strawberry Shortcake pageant, and contests for pie eating and beer stein-holding. Visitors can also enjoy bands, a wine and beer garden, vendors, and carnival rides. The festival runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Main Street and Hanes Place in downtown Vista. WASHINGTON (AP) — A Texas congressman says he released video and photos of migrant women being held at a border facility in his state so the public could better understand "awful" conditions under President Donald Trump's policies.Democratic Rep. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Prosecutors presented evidence Thursday against a man suspected of killing his girlfriend in Cardiff in an effort to send the case to trial. Late in the day, a judge decided there was enough evidence for the case to move forward.Henry Cowen is charged with murder in the death of 43-year-old Sabrina Lukosky. During his preliminary hearing in Vista court, attorneys heard from multiple witnesses, including a DNA expert who tied Cowen to the crime scene. Lukosky’s mother requested a welfare check in October 2019 after not hearing from her daughter for several days. RELATED: North County man accused of killing girlfriend tried to escape the country, prosecutors sayOfficers found Lukosky’s car in front of the granny flat she shared with Cowen and reported a foul smell coming from the home. A search warrant was executed a few days later, and led to the discovery of Lukosky’s body. Police said there were signs of a violent struggle in the couple’s bedroom. "There was a broken stick, a bottle that had been broken, some amount of blood, and the victim had a 1.5-inch vertical gash to her forehead," said Deputy District Attorney Marnie Layon. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office later determined Lukosky died of blunt force trauma and strangulation. Prosecutors believe Cowen left San Diego County and traveled to Los Angeles, then took a Lyft to Riverside County. They also said Cowen tried to leave the country with the help of his children’s mother.
