(KGTV) — A rapidly-spreading wildfire tore through thousands of acres in Northern California Thursday, as strong winds and low humidity brought a red flag warning to the region.The Camp Fire sparked at about 6:30 a.m. in the Pulga area, near Paradise, Calif., in Butte County. Within a few hours, the blaze had charred at least 5,000 acres.By 7 p.m. Thursday, the fire had reached 20,000 acres. Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is currently acting governor with Gov. (KGTV) — A vintage-looking license plate didn't fool a Southern California officer in Moorpark.A Moorpark Police officer recently pulled over a tractor-trailer to conduct a traffic stop for a false license plate, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department said in a release Monday. The plate appeared to be designed after California's 1960s vintage plates — though with some obvious differences.Instead of "California" the plate read "Califas." The plate's lettering also appeared uneven.During the traffic stop, the driver of the truck appeared to be under the influence, the sheriff's department says. The motorcycle officer's assumption turned out to be correct, the department said, as the driver was arrested for being under the influence, possession of methamphetamine, being an unlicensed driver, and having an active arrest warrant.Authorities ended up towing the truck, as well, citing it was unsafe to drive, the department said. 944

(KGTV) -- A suspect in the freeway shooting death of a San Diego man was arrested following a standoff at a San Diego hotel, California Highway Patrol officials announced Monday.Vincent Dulay Deguzman Jr. faces charges in connection with the June 7 death of 47-year-old San Diego resident Jessie Garcia Sr., CHP officials said.According to the CHP, on June 7, Deguzman and Garcia were in a Kia Altima on southbound Interstate 5 in Irvine when Deguzman, who was behind the wheel, allegedly shot Garcia and then abandoned the rental car south of Culver Drive, where it was found on the shoulder with the body next to the vehicle at around 7:33 a.m.On June 11, CHP investigators identified Deguzman as the suspect in the case and obtained a warrant for his arrest.Investigators collaborated with the San Diego Fugitive Task Force and tracked Deguzman to a Hilton Garden Inn in San Diego.CHP officials said, “Deguzman barricaded himself inside a hotel room and a stand-of ensued.”Deguzman eventually surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.Deguzman was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder and being held without bail.CHP officials did not release any information on a possible motive in the case. 1234

(KGTV) — A travel warning for Americans traveling to Mexico was issued Wednesday, ahead of the expected annual Spring Break travel rush.The alert, issued by the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Mexico, warned U.S. citizens of a list possible dangers, including unregulated alcohol, sexual assault, medical emergencies, and breaking the law in Mexico."Each year, thousands of U.S. citizens visit Mexico during Spring Break. While the vast majority of travelers have safe and enjoyable trips, Spring Break travel can sometimes include unforeseen problems," the alert read.The alert recommended travelers check their health plans for coverage overseas or in Mexico, practice safe behavior when swimming at local beaches, drink responsibly and watch drinks at all times, stick close to friends, be aware when traveling around the country, and protect personal possessions.Anyone who needs assistance is encouraged to contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. 968
