BEIJING, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday encouraged young Chinese students to dedicate their lives to the people and bind their own destinies with that of the nation.     Wen made the call at a symposium with some 100 students of the prestigious Tsinghua University, who have chosen to work in China's less-developed western regions or at the grassroots level after graduation.     Wen's Tsinghua tour marked his annual visit to university campuses since 2003 ahead of the Chinese Youth Day, which falls on Monday this year. Wen attended a symposium on Sunday with student representatives from Tsinghua University, who have chosen to work in the vast western regions or at the grassroots level after graduation    In more than one hour's time, Wen listened to the students' stories and gave his advices on their future development, encouraging them to "be resolute-minded, hard working and down-to-earth to achieve your goals."     Sui Shaochun, a mechanics students, said he had landed a job in an aeroplane manufacturing company in southwestern Sichuan Province and was ready to devote himself to the country's project of building its own big planes. "The love and devotion to the people is the most lofty part of human morals," said he.     Wen praised Zou Shenglan and Yan Weilong after learning they had volunteered to work in Tibetan villages.     He told them to be prepared for the hardship in rural areas. "I believe after being tempered at the grassroots level in Tibet, you'll become more mature," he said. "And when you look back at that part of experience in the future, you'll have no regret."     "I want you all to be well-educated people with moral integrity and work ability, and be of use to the people," Wen said before concluding the discussion, followed by having lunch with the students at their dinning hall. BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- China Tuesday called for new initiatives to boost the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership.     The call was made during a meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and former French President Jacques Chirac, who is in Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Hu praised Chirac, on his ninth visit to China, as an old friend of the Chinese people for his contribution to the China-France friendship.     "The Chinese people will never forget this," Hu was quote as saying by a press release from Chinese Foreign Ministry.     Hu said the consolidation of ties, especially in the context of the international financial crisis, would help tackle the crisis and be conducive to promoting long-term peace, stability and prosperity.     "I hope the two countries and two peoples can make joint efforts to advance the development of bilateral strategic partnership," Hu said.     Chirac highlighted the achievements of China in its development, calling the development "a positive factor" in world prosperity, according to the press release.     China ranked as a world power through its own efforts, Chirac said, and its peaceful development was helpful to maintaining stability and prosperity.

BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- China and Brazil issued a joint communique on Tuesday to boost their strategic partnership as Brazilian president visited Beijing.     Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva agreed that both countries have enjoyed fruitful cooperation since forging diplomatic ties 35 years ago, the communique said. They believed it is of great significance to further facilitate China-Brazil strategic partnership at the current stage.     The two countries signed cooperative agreements in politics, law, science, space ,finance, port, energy and agricultural products, among others.     Lula da Silva reiterated in the communique his country's adherence to the one-China policy and admitted that the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government of China and Taiwan is a part of China. President Hu highly appreciated that. They vow to promote cooperation and dispel obstruction in the fields of custom and quality control, to ensure safety and provide convenience to bilateral trade.     Both sides encouraged relevant departments and enterprises to carry out investments in the fields of infrastructure construction, energy, mineral, agriculture, industry, and high-tech industries.     According to the communique, the two sides are willing to strengthen dialogues on macro-economy policies within the mechanism of bilateral financial ministers' dialogue.     The two countries agreed that science and technology played a strategic role in their economic development and competitiveness. They expressed their satisfaction over signing a science and technology and innovation cooperation plan. The two presidents agreed to increase space cooperation and continue joint work on satellite research.     China and Brazil in 1988 launched an earth resources exploring satellite program known as CBERS, and three satellites have so far been launched. The information collected by the satellites was offered to other developing countries for free. The project was considered a technology cooperation model between the developing countries.     The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in education, culture, press, tourism and sports. China welcomes Brazil to set up a general consulate in Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, the document said.     Brazil will participate in the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, and the president wished the World Expo a complete success, according to the communique.     The two developing nations agreed to keep close contacts within the frameworks of the Group of Five(G5) and the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China), and enhance coordination with other developing countries, to increase the participation and voices of developing countries in international affairs.     Hu and Lula da Silva believe and the two countries have taken "important" measures to tackle the global economic downturn, and made positive contribution to maintain respective economic growth and global economic recovery, the communique said. They expected to enhance coordination and cooperation within the World Trade Organization and promote an early conclusion of Doha Round negotiation.     Hu accepted Lula da Silva's invitation for him to visit Brazil at a convenient time.

XIAMEN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin met people of all circles from both sides of the Taiwan Straits attending the largest-yet unofficial cross-Straits forum Saturday afternoon.     The week-long Straits Forum that kicked off on Saturday evening was attended by more than 8,000 Taiwan guests. It features 18 activities including a centerpiece conference, a trade fair, a cultural week, a tourism forum and a seminar on traditional Chinese medicine.
