President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that three Americans held in North Korea have been released and are on their way back home."I am pleased to inform you that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in the air and on his way back from North Korea with the 3 wonderful gentlemen that everyone is looking so forward to meeting. They seem to be in good health," Trump tweeted. He added that Pompeo had a "good meeting" with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and said a "date & place set" for a meeting between the two leaders. The President said Pompeo and his "guests" will be arriving at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland at 2 a.m. ET, presumably Thursday, where he will greet them. The Americans, Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak-song and Kim Sang Duk, also known as Tony Kim, have been held in North Korea for months. While Kim Dong Chul has been in North Korean custody since before Trump was elected, the other two detainees were arrested last spring, after Trump's inauguration and as tensions between Washington and Pyongyang were beginning to ramp up.Tony Kim and Kim Hak-song, who were arrested in April and May of 2017, respectively, were both accused of carrying out "hostile acts" against the Kim Jong Un regime. Both worked at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, which bills itself as the only privately run university in the North Korean capital. The family members of the two educators have said their loved ones are innocent. Shortly after Kim Hak-song was detained, his wife said in an interview with CNN that her husband is an agricultural expert and was teaching rice-growing at the university, trying to help North Koreans feed themselves.Kim Dong Chul was arrested in 2015 for spying on behalf of South Korea, he told CNN in January 2016. The interview was conducted in the presence of North Korean officials, so CNN could not determine whether Kim's comments were made under duress. An official with knowledge of the negotiations previously told CNN that the North Koreans decided to free the Americans two months ago, and that North Korea's foreign minister, Ri Yong Ho, had proposed their release during his visit to Sweden in March. At the time, US officials insisted that their release "must not be related or used to loosen the main issue of denuclearization," the source said, but that message seems to have changed in recent days, according to a source at the National Security Council, who said the development would be viewed as a goodwill gesture ahead of the planned summit with Kim Jong Un.Trump and his allies outside the government had sought to fan the heightened expectations ahead of Thursday's official announcement, casting the potential development as evidence of his negotiating prowess ahead of the summit.Trump had hinted at a potential development in their case last week in a tweet: "As everybody is aware, the past Administration has long been asking for three detainees to be released from a North Korean Labor camp, but to no avail. Stay tuned!"He did not mention that two of the Americans had been detained after he became President. And Rudy Giuliani, a member of Trump's legal team but not himself an employee of the government, teased the release last week as well.  3234

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The tourism industry is looking to bounce back after a tough spring and summer. One resort on the Treasure Coast is trying to appeal to people who want to mix business and pleasure with school.Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, located along the St. Lucie River, is one of the few resorts in the country that offers all-inclusive packages. Now, they are starting new programs that have places for parents and children to get their work and school assignments completed. With many families now working and learning from home, Club Med wants area residents to consider a getaway without abandoning your responsibilities. WPTV Sophia Lykke, the general manager at ClubMed Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, says the resort is working to attract families who can continue to work and attend online school. "We're open to anyone in the United States who want to make their way down to Florida," said general manager Sophia Lykke. She said they have set up two conference rooms that include one for kids to do their schoolwork.“We would have one of our mini club staff dedicated to chaperoning them. [They do ] not act as teachers but make sure they’re logged on [their computer] on time and doing their work," Lykke said. "We have a separate room for adults, which is basically like a working lounge where you can have coffee, snacks. If you need IT support, we have someone who can do it. We have a printer, a good WiFi connection."Closed in March at the beginning of the pandemic, there were no guests for three months at the Club Med.Before reopening in June, the entire operation was reevaluated to make sure guests felt comfortable."Part of that program is operating at a maximum capacity of 65 percent," Lykke said. The goal is for families to have a maximum amount of fun with minimal hassles."If we can offer a place for them to work and to go to school as well as enjoy all of that leisure, then 'welcome' we're waiting for you," Lykke said. This story was first reported by Jon Shainman at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida. 2099

Porn star Stormy Daniels filed a lawsuit for defamation on Monday against President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen. The suit, filed by her lawyer Michael Avenatti in California, came a day after CBS aired a tell-all interview with Daniels regarding an affair she alleges she had with Trump more than a decade ago, and which the White House continues to deny.Monday's legal maneuver is an additional move in an ongoing suit by Daniels against Cohen, Trump and the limited liability company Cohen has said he established to facilitate a payment to Daniels ahead of the presidential election.Cohen has denied Daniels' claims but admitted to making the payment. The additional claim that Daniels filed Monday states that Cohen's denial is a defamatory statement."It was reasonably understood Mr. Cohen meant to convey that Ms. (Stephanie) Clifford is a liar," the complaint reads, referencing Daniels' real name.Avenatti added, "Mr. Cohen made the statement knowing it was false or had serious doubts about the truth of the statements."Reacting to the latest development, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said it is another attempt to compel Cohen, or perhaps even the President, into a deposition under oath.Toobin said key questions would include whether Cohen actually used his own money to pay Daniels and whether Trump knew about it."Those are, I think, the key political issues here, and filing this lawsuit gives Avenatti another opportunity perhaps to get Cohen and perhaps Trump under oath," he said. 1528

President Donald Trump released a 37-minute long video showing his interview with Lesley Stahl taped earlier this week for 60 Minutes. Trump walked out of the interview and didn’t return for a planned section with Vice President Mike Pence. The video, posted to Trump’s Facebook page, shows Trump growing increasingly prickly as anchor Lesley Stahl presses him on the coronavirus pandemic, his slipping support with suburban women and other issues. The “60 Minutes” interview starts on a tense footing as Stahl asks the Republican president, “Are you ready for some tough questions?” It only grows more testy.Trump says, “that’s no way to talk." He later comments, “You’re so negative.” 692

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — The Christmas season means joy, lights, and of course Santa — just a few of the things you will find at Poway's annual Christmas at the Barn."I've had this store for 13 years," says Countryside Barn Co-owner Liz McNamara. "We've always done Christmas, but Christmas exploded for us about seven years ago."For two weekends in November, customers flock to their pop-up store, Christmas at the Barn. It's a Christmas haven for the holiday shopper."It's really become a big family tradition for our customers. They come with their friends, and we have three generations that shop together. We get customers coming from Palm Springs, Orange County, and from as far away as Las Vegas and Arizona," McNamara said. From Christmas ornaments and trees to gnomes, and holiday signs, it's all about making the home merry and warm during the holidays. "We try and bring those items to you that are unique and different," says McNamara. "Where your house feels like a home you want to be, and where you want to celebrate with your family and friends." Of course, this year will be a bit different as in a COVID-19 version of Christmas. Last weekend the store had a line that went out the door. This weekend, as San Diego has entered the state's purple reopening tier, McNamara does not know what to expect."How many people are going to come? We don't know anything. We are limiting our capacity, we are requiring masks at all times covering the mouth and the nose, and we require the use of hand sanitizer at the door," she said.Christmas is all about family and friends. This year, the pandemic will make it more restrictive — but that may mean starting to spread joy even earlier this year."Over decorate your house, and put your tree up now. Who cares, as long as it brings you joy and happiness. Do it, there are no rules this year. It's all about enjoying the season and making those special moments with the little bit of family you can. Just make it a merry Christmas," said McNamara.Christmas at the Barn runs Nov. 12 - 15, and customers are encouraged to bring canned food, which will be delivered to the Poway Community Food Bank. 2158
