An Oregon man was arrested last week and faces multiple criminal charges after attempting to destroy a McDonald's location's "Golden Arches" after he was refused an order of 30 double cheeseburgers. The News-Review first reported the March 17 incident, which took place in Sutherlin, Oregon. Jedediah Ezekiel Fulton was charged with suspicion of second-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief and harassment, the News-Review reported. The incident became so scary, a witness inside the McDonald's pulled out a gun out of fear. Fulton allegedly became irate after McDonald's employees refused to fulfill his order of 30 double cheeseburgers. After being refused the order, Fulton allegedly tore down a McDonald's banner and attempted to destroy the location's Golden Arches. Why he was refused the order in the first place is unknown.  934

Applebee's announced Tuesday it will close as many as 80 restaurants nationwide as the chain continues to struggle attracting young diners. The announcement comes after Applebee's parent company, DineEquity, said in August it would close more than 100 restaurants. It's not clear which Applebee's locations would close, but according to Fortune, remaining locations will be judged on a number of criteria. “The expected closures will be based on several criteria, including meeting our brand and image standards as well as operational results,” DineEquity told Fortune in a statement.DineEquity also announced it would close up to 40 IHOP locations, though it plans to open as many as 100 new locations of the breakfast chain throughout the country.DineEquity's stock has soared since the announcement, rising nearly 20 percent on Tuesday.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. An advisory committee is recommending Americans age 75 and older, along with essential workers like firefighters, teachers, and grocery store workers should be next in line for the COVID-19 vaccine. This second wave of people comes after the first tier of health care workers and long-term care facility residents that was agreed to by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices earlier this month should get the first of the vaccine shots that started last week. The committee, composed of health experts in the field of immunization, makes recommendations to the CDC, and they are almost always adopted. They voted Sunday afternoon on the recommendation, it was 13-to-1. They also discussed the next tier, which could include Americans age 65-to-75, as well as those who are age 16-to-64 who have high-risk medical conditions, and other essential workers not already vaccinated, according to CNN. It comes as a second COVID-19 vaccine, made by Moderna and the National Institutes of Health, begins being shipped around the country for approved emergency use and a second week of shipments arrive of the Pfizer vaccine. The CDC says roughly 556,000 Americans received the first dose of the vaccine last week. The Pfizer vaccine started being given on Monday, December 14.The general overseeing the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines says they are on track to deliver about 20 million doses before the end of the year. Each person must receive 2 doses of the vaccine for full effect, which has been shown in both vaccines to be higher than 90% effective. As for when the second tier of frontline workers and those age 75 and older will receive their vaccines is up to state governors depending on their vaccination plans and distribution of the vaccine. The advisory panel is offering guidance to state leaders about how to handle distribution of the vaccine. 1872

As a new work week begins, many are wondering if Atlanta is back to full speed following a cyberattack on the city's computer systems last week.It all depends on the department. Some departments were not affected at all by the cyberattack, while employees in others are still not able to turn on their computers. The fire and police departments were not affected at all by the ransomware attack. The same goes for the public works department, housing authority and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, although the airport has suspended its Wi-fi services, just in case. But other departments have been forced to conduct businesses the old-fashioned way, by using pen and paper. For example, if you have an issue with trash pickup, traffic signals and potholes, you'll have to resolve it over the phone. Also, the city jail is having to process inmates manually.Business owner Marcus Woodard was among the people turned away Monday at Atlanta City Hall. He was looking to renew his business license but the computers are still down."I commuted all this way to get it, and now I've got to come back tomorrow or the day after," said Woodard. On the other hand, Doug Lueder walked out a happy man after his application to have a commercial property subdivided was handled."I had to turn in an application last week just before the cyberattack happened, so I got in and got out," said Lueder. "Today, I was just turning in my notarized sign posting affidavit so that went pretty easy also, so all in all, I got out pretty easy."Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms provided an update on city services and says people may want to check ahead to see which services are available.CBS46 spoke with cyber security expert Alex DeFreese and he says it's malicious software that takes over a computer or a system and encrypts it."You can't access the contents unless you have the key," says DeFreese. "And then they take that key and they ship it back to their servers and they hold the information and the systems and the drives and whatever ransom until you either manage to revert from a backup or pay them however much they're asking for it."It all started Thursday morning around 5:40 a.m. when the city of Atlanta official Twitter account sent out a tweet saying:“The City of Atlanta is currently experiencing outages on various customer-facing applications, including some that customers may use to pay bills or access court-related information. Our @ATL_AIM team is working diligently with support from Microsoft to resolve this issue. Atlantaga.gov remains accessible. We will post any updates as we receive them. Thank you for your patience.”The hackers sent a note listing their demands and instructions that read:-Send .8 bitcoins for each computer or 6 bitcoins for all of the computers. (the equivalent of around ,000)-After the .8 bitcoin is sent, leave a comment on their website with the provided host name-They'll then reply to the comment with a decryption software. When you run that all of the encrypted files will be recovered.City officials have not said if they'll pay the ransom. The FBI is investigating.  3133

As Congress mulls over the possibility of another stimulus package, and the idea of including a second wave of stimulus checks in it, the House Ways and Means Committee estimates 30 to 35 million Americans are still waiting on their stimulus money from the CARES Act.“Let’s make sure that we don’t lose focus on the people who didn’t get a payment from the first branch,” said Bob Probasco.Probasco is a CPA and the director of the Low Income Tax Clinic at Texas A&M University. He has followed activity with stimulus checks since they started going out in April, in particular, all of the issues the IRS has had in getting the money into taxpayers’ hands.“There are just a number of different problems,” said Probasco. "People had old bank account information on their tax returns, and then, they changed their bank account, but the IRS doesn’t have the new one. The payment went to the bank, it will have to be returned and then a paper check will go out.”The IRS attempted to speed payments up in May by sending out prepaid debit cards to 4 million people, but the debit cards were not as helpful as anticipated and resulted in the IRS continuing to distribute paper checks for the remaining payments.“There were big problems with that,” Probasco explained. “We saw tax representatives, CPAs, lawyers, who people came to and said, ‘I got this’ and they weren’t sure that was legitimate.”The debit cards were sent in barely-marked envelopes that caused so many to think they were fake. So, the IRS had to issue a press release, reminding people that the “plain envelope from Money Network Cardholder Services” is not junk mail.In addition, the IRS had to issue guidance for those who destroyed or threw out their debit cards, asking them to call 1-800-240-8100. Anyone else who hasn’t received a debit card or stimulus check payment can go to the IRS’s Check My Payment feature on its website.“If you see on there that a payment was sent out, but you didn’t get the payment, there is a different number that you can call which is 1-800-919-9835,” Probasco said. The good news is the IRS expects to get all the stimulus payments out ahead of the initial September timeline, and a proposed second round of stimulus checks could go smoother.“There will be some improvements because the IRS has learned some lessons,” said Probasco. 2341
