A Tokyo skyscraper is set to become the world's tallest wooden building.Japanese company Sumitomo Forestry says its 1,148-feet-tall timber tower will be completed in 2041, to mark the 350th anniversary of the business that year. The W350 tower will cost an estimated 600 billion yen (.6 billion) to build.The 70-story tower will be a hybrid structure made from 90% wooden materials. A steel vibration-control framework will underpin the design -- an important feature in a city where earthquakes are frequent.Green balconies will populate the skyscraper's exterior, connecting the building to its environment."The aim is to create environmentally-friendly and timber-utilizing cities where (cities) become forests through increased use of wooden architecture for high-rise buildings," the company said in a press release.The Japanese government is trying to encourage more developers to use wood. In 2010, it passed the Promotion of Use of Wood in Public Buildings Act, which required all government buildings up to three stories high to be constructed with wood, or to utilize wood. 1093

A US Postal Service employee was found fatally shot inside a truck on Interstate 30, Dallas police said.The employee was found about 2:20 a.m. Monday in a USPS box truck on the Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike Freeway, police said in a statement.Homicide detectives and US postal inspectors responded, but police did not indicate what might have happened. A teenager suspected of opening fire at a high school near Spokane, Washington and killing one student told detectives he wanted to teach others a lesson, court documents released Thursday said.The suspect has been charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder after a deadly shooting at the at Freeman High School on Wednesday, the Spokane County sheriff's office said in a statement.Authorities say the shooter, a sophomore at the school, pulled a handgun and started shooting indiscriminately inside the school until a janitor approached him and ordered him to surrender. A North Carolina schoolteacher who disappeared last month while out for a walk in Mexico is dead, according to a post on the verified Facebook page of the Governor of Chihuahua.Patrick Braxton-Andrew, 34, from Davidson, disappeared October 28 after leaving his hotel in Urique. Javier Corral Jurado, writing in Spanish, said that Braxton-Andrew crossed paths with a drug dealer from the Sinaloa cartel and was killed in a "cowardly and brutal murder."A Facebook page set up to find Braxton-Andrew said that Chihuahua state authorities had confirmed the death and are searching for those responsible to bring them to justice."The family would like to thank the Chihuahua Governor and Attorney General for their unwavering commitment to locating Patrick," a message said on the Find PBA Facebook page."Patrick died doing what he loved — traveling and meeting people. A motorcycling Santa in Tennessee took out his bike covered in Christmas decorations a few months early this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic."After 2020 rolled in, so many people became unhappy, the cheer level dropped, there is sadness, there's all kind of stuff happening that we sure don't need, but it's here," said AJ Wolf, Motorcycle Santa.Wolf, as Santa, with his decked-out motorcycle has been entertaining the Cross Plains area at Christmas-time for seven years.His wife, who he calls Mrs. Claus, encouraged him this month to take out his Harley Davidson adorned with antlers, 1,400 lights, and a sleigh. "She said 'honey, you need to go out get the reindeer bike and just go and wave to people and get the cheer up, spread some cheer honey, do it somehow,'" he said.He's taken the motorcycle to Walmart, driven it on the highway, and just a few doors down too, where a group of kids live."Here's the thing, we have so many little ones from the time they are able to walk, they want to run up and see Santa... even the parents they look at this and they get worse then kids get," he said.Motorcycle Santa added a new message to his bike this summer to bring extra cheer during the public health crisis."It says 'Santa putting cheer in gear and it all starts here' which is in a red heart," he said.WTVF's Hannah McDonald first reported this story. 1389
