Attorney General William Barr has agreed to go before the House Judiciary Committee on March 31 to respond to allegations that the Department of Justice is making decisions that are politically influenced. The House Judiciary Committee wants to question Barr on three incidents from this week that it found questionable. One was the DOJ's decision to overrule prosecutors' recommended sentence of Trump ally Roger Stone. Stone was convicted on charges of lying to Congress, tampering with a witness and obstructing a House investigation. On Monday, the prosecution asked the judge for a 7-9 year sentence of Stone. But following tweets from the president, Barr overruled the prosecutors, stating that the sentencing guidelines prosecutors used were too harsh."This is a horrible and very unfair situation. The real crimes were on the other side, as nothing happens to them. Cannot allow this miscarriage of justice!” Trump tweeted on Tuesday. A second incident the committee is investigating is on Barr stating publicly that he has opened a "channel" for President Donald Trump's attorney Rudolph Giuliani to deliver information to the DOJ involving presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Giuliani has openly said that he is looking for information from the Ukrainian government on whether the former vice president and his son conducted any wrongdoing when Joe Biden pushed for the ouster of a Ukrainian prosecutor. The third is the decision to pull the nomination of Jessie Liu, who is a U.S. Attorney who originally was nominated for a post in the Treasury Department. Liu oversaw the office that tried the prosecutions of several Trump allies, including Stone and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. As Puerto Rico prepares for a direct strike from Tropical Storm Dorian on Wednesday, the east coast of Florida could see Dorian make landfall as a hurricane this weekend. According to the forecast track published by the National Hurricane Center late on Tuesday, Dorian is expected to come ashore Sunday night as a hurricane, possibly along the Florida east coast. The coast of Georgia is also in the path of Dorian. Before Dorian reaches the continental U.S., it will pass by Puerto Rico on Wednesday. As of late Tuesday, Puerto Rico is under a tropical storm warning and hurricane watch.Heavy rain is expected for all of Puerto Rico, with some areas receiving 8 inches of rain on Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center warns that flash flooding could occur in Puerto Rico. What Dorian does after passing Puerto Rico is somewhat of a mystery. While Dorian likely will weaken slightly due to land interaction with Puerto Rico, there are questions of how strong Dorian will be before it reaches the U.S. The National Hurricane Center said its forecast is more conservative than some of the forecast models, noting that the models have been inconsistent on forecasting Dorian's intensity. 1200

Canadian police said they are open to the possibility that a young couple's slaying is connected to the case of two missing Canadian teens in the same region of British Columbia.The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said last week that there was no evidence to suggest the deaths of an American woman and her Australian boyfriend were linked to the teens' disappearance -- or to the body of an unidentified man found near the teens' burning car.But on Monday, the RCMP acknowledged "growing community concerns" about the two investigations some 290 miles apart in the sparsely populated region.Cpl. Chris Manseau said it was unusual for investigators in northern British Columbia to have two "complex and dynamic" cases at once, adding it was "possible" that the two cases are linked. But he provided no information suggesting that investigators had found direct evidence of a connection.Nevertheless, the RCMP revealed more details from the case of the missing teens on Monday, along with new information in the couple's death.Here's what we know about the two cases so far:Authorities try to find teens and identify corpseThe RCMP is searching for Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, after their car was found burning on the side of Highway 37 on Friday.While investigating the fire, police discovered the body of a man more than a mile away, the RCMP said in a statement. They were driving the red and grey Dodge pickup truck with a sleeping camper that was found on fire the next day, about 31 miles south of Dease Lake, the RCMP said."Kam and Bryer have periodically connected with family and friends over the past week and it is possible that they are now in an area without cell coverage," said Dawn Roberts of British Columbia's RCMP Communications."However, we have found their vehicle and have not been able to locate either of them at this time.
