SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held bilateral talks on Thursday with the presidents of South Korea, the United States and Russia, respectively, to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues including global economic recovery.The meetings took place after Hu arrived in Seoul earlier in the day for the summit of Group of 20 (G20) major economies in Seoul.RELATIONS WITH SOUTH KOREAWelcoming President Hu, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said he believed China would play an important role in promoting international economic cooperation within the G-20 framework.The two presidents reached a consensus on further strengthening the bilateral relations and on how to successfully hold the G-20 summit.The healthy and stable development of China's economy is very important to the development of Asia and also to the recovery of the world's economy, Lee said.The South Korean president also voiced hopes for the two countries to strengthen their exchange activities with an aim to increase mutual trust and further develop their bilateral strategic partnership.Hu said the Seoul G-20 summit is the first to be held in an Asian country and also in an emerging market economy.Hu stressed that China and South Korea are important neighbors and partners and that China is willing to work with South Korea to advance the bilateral strategic partnership into a comprehensive one.Hu said China has always supported the improvement of relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and South Korea."China is willing to play a constructive role in this regard," he said.Lee expressed his appreciation for China's efforts in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Penisula.

BEIJING, Dec.19 (Xinhua) -- China's land regulators urged local land authorities late Sunday to take concrete measures against excessive growth in the country's land prices in some Chinese cities and crack down on illegal behavior, such as land hoarding, to ensure the implementation of the government's cooling measures on the property market.The Ministry of Land and Resources(MOLAR) said in a statement on its web site that the recently seen high prices in land sales in some Chinese cities had raised social concerns, which local land authorities should pay considerable attention to, and take actions to curb the rapid growth in land prices.According to the MOLAR, cities and counties that had not provided more than 70 percent of the total land supply this year to shantytown renovation, the construction of affordable homes and medium-priced commercial housing, should not provide land for high-end housing for the rest of this year.Further, for land sales with over 50 percent premium rate or record high prices, local governments should report to provincial land authorities and the MOLAR within two working days after the deal is closed.The procedures of supplying land should also be strictly conducted, and there should never be any change in the use of land that is for the construction of affordable housing, said the statement.

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday voiced its hope that parties in the north and south Sudan will make continuous efforts for a peaceful, free, transparent and just referenda in Sudan in accordance with the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), and called for international efforts to create favorable conditions for the January referenda.The statement came as Yang Tao, the counsellor of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, was addressing an open Security Council meeting on Sudan."We hope the north and south Sudan will keep up the momentum, speed up the preparation for the referenda and ensure that the referenda are conducted in a peaceful, free, transparent and just manner in accordance with the CPA," Yang said.A referendum on self-determination for southern Sudan is scheduled to be conducted on Jan. 9, 2011, as it was stipulated in the CPA inked between north and south Sudan in 2005, which ended a two-decade civil war between the two sides."We call on the international community to create a favorable condition for the referenda and refrain from prejudging the outcome," he said. "No party should take unilateral action. No matter what outcome of the referenda might be, peace and stability in Sudan and the region must be ensured."Inhabitants of the south will vote on Jan. 9, 2011 on whether to secede from Sudan or remain united with the rest of the country. On the same day, residents of Abyei, located in the center of the country, will vote separately on whether to retain Abyei's special administrative status in the north or become part of Bahr el- Ghazal state in the south.Since the Security Council held the high-level open meeting on Sudan last month, the peace process in Sudan continues to register positive progress, Yang noted."Voter registration for the referenda for southern Sudan has been concluded smoothly, we commend the north and south Sudan, the African Union and the UN Secretariat for the efforts to this end," he said."Maintaining the peace, stability and development in Sudan is in the interest of the Sudanese people, and it is also conducive to the peace and development in the region and in the African continent," Yang said."China hopes that the north and south will cherish the peace that was hard to come by, and continue their equal dialogue and consultation in order to reach an early agreement on the border demarcation, Abyei and wealth sharing and other outstanding issues, " he said. UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China welcomes the smooth completion of the referendum in south Sudan, which is "an important step" towards the full implementation of the Comprehensive Peaceful Agreement, a senior Chinese diplomat said here on Tuesday. Addressing an open debate on the situation of Sudan in the Security Council, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN Wang Min said that the referendum in south Sudan is not an end in itself in implementing the CPA, instead, realizing sustainable peace, stability and development in Sudan is the final purpose. "No matter what the outcome of the referendum is, it is imperative to ensure the long-term peace and stability in Sudan and the region at large," said Wang. Wang noted that China hoped to see the north and south Sudan would continue to conduct dialogue and consultations, so as to reach an earlier agreement on such issues as the status of Abyei, wealth sharing and border demarcation, lying down a foundation for further promoting the north-south peace process. On Saturday, South Sudan referendum polling centers closed. The referendum will determine whether south Sudan remains a part of Sudan or becomes independent, in accordance with the 2005 CPA that ended a long-running north-south civil war. In order to assist Sudan in the referendum, China has donated to the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission 500,000 U.S. dollars in cash and provided its bureau with support in kind. China has also sent a group of observers to Sudan. Wang reiterated China's willingness to "work together with the international community and the parties concerned to continue to play an active and constructive role in promoting the long-term peace, stability and development of Sudan." Concerning the situation in Darfur region, Wang said that China supports a peaceful and comprehensive settlement to the Darfur issue, in particular the tackling of the root causes for the issue. "At present, the security situation in Darfur is very fragile, and humanitarian assistance is faced with many difficulties, " said Wang, "the root cause is the lack of a strong and widely supported political agreement in Darfur." China called on the Security Council and international community to strengthen support for political process in Darfur and urged the Darfur rebel groups to join the peace talks without conditions and delay, said Wang.
