GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A 5-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a bear overnight in east Orchard Mesa.The girl had gone outside around 2:30 a.m. early Sunday to investigate noises she thought were being made by her dog, the girl’s mother told Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers.But the girl’s mother heard her daughter screaming and went outside to see a “large black bear” dragging her daughter, CPW officials said. The bear dropped the girl after her mother screamed at it. Their home is in the east Orchard Mesa area, above the Colorado River corridor, officials said.The girl was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction with serious injuries, CPW said. Radio traffic from first responders said she had been bitten on her back and near her head.Officers were tracking the bear, along with federal wildlife officials, on Sunday morning. CPW said area residents could expect to see law enforcement officials and hounds in the area, and ask anyone to report bear sightings to officials. 1045

GENEVA (AP) — Russia has been banned from using its name, flag and anthem at the next two Olympics or at any world championships for the next two years. The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s ruling also blocks Russia from bidding to host major sporting events for two years. Russian athletes and teams will still be allowed to compete at next year’s Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing if they are not implicated in doping or covering up positive tests. The name “Russia” can be retained on uniforms if the words “Neutral Athlete” or “Neutral Team” have equal prominence, the court said.Still, the court’s three judges imposed the most severe penalties on Russia since allegations of state-backed doping and cover-ups emerged after the 2014 Sochi Olympics.The case centered on accusations that Russian state authorities tampered with a database from the Moscow testing laboratory before handing it over to WADA investigators last year. GORMAN, Calif. (KGTV) - Interstate 5 over the Grapevine reopened Thursday afternoon after an hours-long closure due to snow, ice, and multiple collisions. California Highway Patrol officials said the crashes involved semi-trucks and other stuck vehicles on north I-5 just north of Gorman School Road. There were no immediate reports of injuries.CHP officers also escorted traffic over Highway 58.At 9:27 a.m., the National Weather Service reported snow in the higher elevations of the I-5 pass through the Grapevine. Greg Eubanks disappeared over the weekend, leaving his family frantic. Two days later, he was at home, safe.The 41-year-old had crashed his SUV around 3 a.m. Saturday in Oxon Hill, Maryland. The SUV went down an embankment and got stuck between the highway entrance and exit ramps, so his car wasn't visible from the road.Eubanks was hurt when he was thrown from the SUV. He was left laying at the bottom of the ravine with broken bones and a dead cell phone for two days and three nights. "He said he didn't think he was gonna make it," Tre Drew, Eubanks' cousin, said. "He heard several fire trucks passing, ambulance passing. He kept saying 'I know they're coming for me' and no one came for him."Eubanks' son, Greg Eubanks Jr., reported him missing Saturday, then drove around searching for his dad. "I was worried. I couldn't sleep. (I) rode around all day yesterday trying to find his car, just looking for any type of piece of evidence," the younger Eubanks said.A highway crew finally spotted Eubanks and his car while repairing a damaged guardrail on the Indian Head Highway. "He said it was the worst thing he's ever been through, and he has been through a lot," Drew said.Eubanks was taken to the hospital for treatment. His family says he is in good spirits and is expected to make a full recovery.
