LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal investigators who examined the burned-out wreckage of a scuba diving boat have not been able to determine what ignited a fire that killed 34 people off the California coast, a law enforcement official said Friday.Teams from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives left after spending two weeks reviewing what remains of the Conception, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation.Parts of the vessel have been sent to labs for additional testing, said the official, who was not authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity. There is no indication anyone intentionally set the Sept. 2 fire.Six crew members were asleep when the fire broke out before dawn and trapped those sleeping in bunks below deck. Coast Guard rules require a roving watchman, and authorities were looking into possible criminal charges that would likely focus on an obscure federal law known as the seaman's manslaughter statute.RELATED: San Diego woman killed in deadly Conception boat fire off Santa BarbaraWith the boat propped up by braces and scaffolding, investigators wearing protective suits walked over planks to inspect and document the burned vessel at Port Hueneme, a naval base more than 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles, the official said. Some parts of the boat washed away because it was submerged for two weeks off Santa Cruz Island.Authorities also will examine hundreds of documents seized from the boat's owner, Truth Aquatics Inc., days after the fire. The Coast Guard, FBI and U.S. attorney's office in Los Angeles are leading a criminal investigation into the blaze, and the National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a safety inquiry. The captain and four crew members asleep on the vessel's upper deck survived the fire. The sixth, a 26-year-old deckhand named Allie Kurtz, was sleeping below deck and perished with the boat's 33 passengers.Truth Aquatics preemptively filed a federal lawsuit under a pre-Civil War maritime law that shields boat owners from monetary damages in a disaster at sea.Ryan Sims, a cook on the boat who broke his leg trying to escape the flames, claimed in a separate lawsuit that the boat was unseaworthy and operated in an unsafe manner.Coast Guard records show the Conception passed its two most recent inspections with no safety violations. 2408

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California health officials Tuesday urged consumers to stop vaping marijuana or tobacco products until investigators determine why hundreds of people nationwide have been sickened after using the devices.Ninety people with a history of vaping have been hospitalized for severe breathing problems and lung damage in the state, and two people have died. With no known cause, officials say consumers should refrain from vaping of any kind until investigations are completed."We are seeing something that we have not seen before," Acting State Public Health Officer Charity Dean said in a statement. "There are numerous unknown factors at this time, and due to the uncertainty of the exact cause, it is our recommendation that consumers refrain from vaping until the investigation has concluded."RELATED: Second vaping-related death in Kansas brings nationwide total to nineOver 500 cases have been reported across the U.S., and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating the mysterious outbreak but has not yet identified a common electronic cigarette or ingredient as the culprit in the rash of illnesses.Symptoms can include chest pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, fever and weight loss.RELATED: 11 San Diego illnesses linked to vaping, officials sayIn its health advisory, the state Public Health Department specifically warned against using cannabis products from illegal dispensaries that could be holding tainted oil."Illegal cannabis dispensaries sell unregulated and untested cannabis products and absolutely should not be used," the agency said.RELATED: El Cajon to consider city ban on vapingLast week, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that the state will spend million on a public awareness campaign about the dangers of vaping nicotine and cannabis products and step up efforts to halt the sale of illicit products. The Associated Press reported earlier this month that shops in downtown Los Angeles are openly selling packaging and hardware that can be used to produce counterfeit marijuana vapes that have infiltrated the state's cannabis marketplace. 2128

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – During her first show of her 18th season, Ellen DeGeneres addressed the toxic workplace allegations made over the summer and apologized to those affected.“As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation,” said the talk show host in a clip released Monday morning. “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”DeGeneres said she knows she’s in a position of privilege and power and realizes that it comes with responsibility.“I take responsibility for what happens at my show,” she said. “This is the ‘Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ I am Ellen DeGeneres, my name is there, my name is there, my name is on underwear.”DeGeneres said the people at the show have had a lot of conversations over the past few weeks about the workplace and what they want for the future.“We have made the necessary changes, and today, we are starting a new chapter,” said DeGeneres without saying what the changes would be.This was the first time DeGeneres addressed her viewers publicly since BuzzFeed and other news outlets reported about the dozens of current and former employees who said executive producers engaged in sexual misconduct and harassment at the show. Other workers detailed accounts of racism, fear and intimidation, BuzzFeed reports.Three executive producers of the show have been fired since the allegations were revealed. At the end of her opening monologue, DeGeneres announced that Stephen “tWitch” Boss won’t be her DJ any longer. Instead, he’ll act as co-executive producer, because DeGeneres says he’s “such an important part of this show.”DeGeneres also addressed reports that she’s not who she appears to be on television. She says she became known as the “be kind” lady, because that’s how she ends her shows. But that put her in a tricky spot, because people are complex.“I am also a lot of other things,” she said. “Sometimes I get sad, I get mad, I get anxious, I get frustrated, I get impatient. And I am working on all of that. I am a work in progress, and I'm especially working on the impatience thing because, and it's not going well, because it's not happening fast enough, I will tell you that.”Watch the monologue below: 2361

Let's make it happen," Perry said.More recently, Goldberg reiterated to James Corden on “The Late Late Show” how much she wanted to make the movie happen.“We’re working diligently to try and figure out every-, get the gang together and come back,” said Goldberg. The first "Sister Act" followed Whoopi's character, a lounge singer who was forced into the witness protection program and had to live with nuns in a convent.
