PINE VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman was taken into custody in East San Diego County on suspicion of smuggling methamphetamine with her 6-year-old son in her car, U.S. Border Patrol Agents said Wednesday. The arrest happened about 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Interstate 8 checkpoint in Pine Valley. Agents pulled over the 25-year-old woman who was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition. A K-9 alerted agents to the SUV’s rear door, where they found 65 bundles of crystal meth in the rear spare tire, officials said. The woman, a Mexican national, was arrested. Her son is now in the care of Child Protective Services. Agents said the drugs had a street value of 9,352. 666

PACIFIC BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - El Prez Beach Bar and Cocina in Pacific Beach was shut down by the Health Department in May just one day after San Diego restaurants were allowed to reopen, and a few weeks later, the business is now back open with new rules.RELATED: Pacific Beach's El Prez shut down for violating health ordersMultiple officials highlighted a video posted to social media that showed a crowded bar with a lack of social distancing and masks, causing the closure. Bar management has worked with the Health Department and the business is now back open with strict guidelines. Patron Matt Holman visited El Prez Saturday, June 13 and said he was pleasantly surprised to see all of the precautions being taken.“We noticed at the door there was a ‘covid coordinator,’ she looked like she was having an awesome time, kind of regulating everybody, making sure everybody was six feet apart,” he said, noting he witnessed a group get turned away when one person’s temperature was too high.He also said the rules were strict once inside.“When you sit down at the table, you can take your mask off, but you’re only allowed to get up from the table if you’re going to the bathroom or if you’re leaving the restaurant, so they were very specific about that,” he said.A previous statement from El Prez highlighted planned steps for reopening, including:We will have two separate lines to enter the restaurant. One will be for our rooftop and the other will be for our main level. The lines will be organized outside the restaurant and we will have 6’ markers to delineate where customers can stand. There will be no more lines on the main level. And we will have a security guard to remind guests to stand at least six feet of distance between parties and that masks must be worn at all times.All patrons must be served at tables. The tables will be socially distant from each other. There is no standing room inside the restaurant.We will bring on additional staff to ensure masks are worn at all times. If customers do not wear their masks, we will, unfortunately, have to ask them to leave.We will increase signage throughout the restaurant notifying customers of the county’s and state rules. PARKLAND, Fla. – The death penalty case against Nikolas Cruz in the 2018 massacre at a Florida high school remains in limbo.At a brief hearing Tuesday, no decisions were made on a trial date amid continuing obstacles because of the coronavirus pandemic. Cruz's defense lawyers say they have almost no access to him in jail, nor do defense experts they insist must see him to build a case."We're in a worldwide pandemic. It's just not safe to be doing that right now," said defense attorney Melisa McNeill in the hearing, held remotely. "All of that, unfortunately, is on hold."Broward County State Attorney Michael Satz said his office is ready for trial but added that they must await the filing of various anticipated defense motions. That is one of the issues interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.Cruz, 21, is charged with killing 17 people and wounding 17 others during a Valentine's Day 2018 rampage with an AR-15 rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.Cruz's court-appointed public defenders have repeatedly said in court he would plead guilty in exchange for a life prison sentence. The state attorney's office has rejected that, contending that a jury should decide his fate.Just when a trial may begin is anyone's guess.As time has gone on, things have changed. Satz, the state attorney, is leaving his post after 44 years. There are new candidates to replace Satz, including Democrat Harold Pryor who, if elected in November, would be the first Black state attorney in Broward County history.Pryor has not commented directly on the Cruz case but, in general, has said he personally opposes the death penalty. Pryor has the support of the county mayor, Dale V.C. Holness.His opponent on the Republican side is Gregg Rossman, a veteran former homicide prosector who handled some of Broward County's biggest murder cases. Pharmacy chain Walgreens said on Friday that it will be working with 35,000 assisted care facilities throughout the US in the coming weeks and months in administering the coronavirus vaccine.Earlier this week, CVS announced plans to vaccinate those working or living in 40,000 assisted living facilities.Walgreens expects to vaccinate 3 million residents and staff at facilities throughout the US. CVS did not announced how many people they expect to vaccinate through the program.Starting next week, Walgreens will be administering coronavirus vaccines to residents and staff at 800 facilities spread across 12 US states.CVS and Walgreens are expected at some point to administer the coronavirus vaccine to the general public, but when is still a major question. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A parade of cars and motorcycles circled around a Jewish community center's parking lot on Sunday for a World War II veteran's centennial birthday celebration."Why is everybody here today? Well, you better ask them (family members)," said Mike Katzman, who turned 100 years old on Monday. "I think it's because I am so good looking."While he might have been joking, he was there for a reason."I am one of the luckiest guys in the world to hit 100," Katzman said.He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and served as a specialist in Texas and five other bases and schools throughout the United States.His family wanted to throw him a party at the community center, where he loves to workout, but the COVID-19 pandemic struck.Instead, he had a parade of family, friends and fellow veterans who drove by to say, "happy birthday."He has a few secrets to living this long: working out, giving to others and his special diet from when he was a child."My special diet was bologna.
