SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A VA hospital specialty clinic in La Jolla was evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a gas leak, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department confirmed. According to the Department, the VA San Diego Healthcare System hospital's spinal cord facility on the 3300 block of La Jolla Village Drive was evacuated just before 3 p.m. The gas leak happened inside the two-story building, the department said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An hours-long SWAT standoff involving a domestic violence suspect in Point Loma came to an end Thursday night. Police were called to the 2200 block of Caminito Pescado around 4:45 p.m. after receiving a call from a neighbor. Police say a woman who lives in the home ran to the neighbor’s house reporting that she and her 71-year-old husband got into a fight. Police and SWAT responded and found the man on the second floor balcony of the condo. After trying to get the 71-year-old down from the balcony, police say he ran inside before a gunshot could be heard coming from the home. Neighbor Jenny Taylor spoke with 10News on FaceTime, saying she could see officers lined up with their weapons drawn from her patio. She said she was ready for the worst, "let me move it so we can at least duck down really quick and hit the floor and run inside the house, so we left the screen door open and moved all the chairs out of the way."It was hours before police and SWAT packed up.Authorities later found the man dead inside. According to police, records show authorities had never been previously called to the home. An investigation into the incident is currently underway. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Adam Shacknai testified Monday in the wrongful death civil lawsuit filed by the family of Rebecca Zahau, whose body was found hanging at the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado.The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office ruled Zahau’s death was a suicide. Zahau’s family believes she was murdered at the home on 1043 Ocean Blvd.Adam Shacknai, the brother of Zahau’s boyfriend Jonah, told investigators he removed Zahau’s body from the balcony about 6:45 a.m. the morning of July 13, 2011.In testimony, Shacknai said he called 911.Investigators found her body on the ground, her hands and feet bound with red rope. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A teenager is publicly apologizing after admitting to vandalizing a park in Scripps Ranch last December. Jerabek park was vandalized on December 8, 2018. Days later, the Scripps Ranch Civic Association offered a reward to find the person who vandalized the field. Neighbors said they believed a large truck drove in circles on the field, destroying the turf. In the association’s August newsletter, the unidentified teenager admits to vandalizing the grass.
