OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The piercing sound of a high-powered drill could be heard coming from the Otay Mesa border wall prototypes Tuesday morning. Journalist Jorge Neito captured the images from a neighborhood in Tijuana. Construction workers could be seen drilling more than a dozen holes into the concrete barriers.Customs and Border Protection officials confirmed to 10News last week that the prototypes were coming down to make space for a secondary border fence. That fence will strech 14 miles from the beach to Otay Mountain. Officials never specified when the prototype demolition would happen.The prototypes are 30 feet high and were built in last September of 2017. President Trump toured the barriers in 2018. Out of the eight designs there wasn't one specifically picked for the border wall. "There was never an intent to pick one and copy that along the entire U.S. border. The entire concept literally was how can we do this better," San Diego Sector Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott told 10News in 2018. "But we're not picking one of these walls over the other walls, and we never planned on doing that. So, depending on the terrain or the environment, it could be any one of these? PHILADELPHIA — Police shot and killed a 27-year-old Black man on a Philadelphia street after yelling at him to drop his knife, sparking violent protests that police said injured 30 officers and led to dozens of arrests.The shooting occurred Monday afternoon as officers responded to a call for a person with a weapon.Police spokesperson Tanya Little said officers who arrived ordered the man to drop the knife.Video of the fatal confrontation posted on social media shows officers pointing their guns at the man, later identified as Walter Wallace, 27.He walks toward the officers as they back away from him in the street, guns still aimed at him. Both officers then fired several times.One of the officers transported Wallace to a local hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, both officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting.Wallace's father, Walter Wallace Sr., told the Inquirer that his son suffered from "mental issues" and that police should not have resorted to gunfire.“Why didn’t they use a Taser? The Inquirer reports that one officer was hospitalized but in stable condition after suffering a broken leg after being hit by a pickup truck. PALA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A 5-year-old boy critically injured in Saturday’s deadly bus crash was airlifted to a Riverside County hospital Sunday, authorities said. The young boy was airlifted from Inland Valley Medical Center to the Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley to be treated for a head injury, California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Latulippe said. The boy was among 21 passengers on a charter bus traveling to Tijuana from El Monte. The crash happened on Interstate 15 south of State Route 76. Three women were killed in the crash that left 18 others hospitalized. Five of those injured were taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, five to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar and eight to Temecula Valley Hospital, Latulippe said. PARIS (AP) — Kenzo Takada, the iconic French-Japanese fashion designer famed for his jungle-infused designs and free-spirited aesthetic that channeled global travel, has died. He was 81. The family said Takada died from complications from COVID-19. Takada retired from his house in 1999 to pursue a career in art, but it remains a respected fixture in high Paris fashion. Since 1993, the brand Kenzo has been owned by luxury goods company LVMH. He studied fashion in Tokyo before relocating to Paris and taking over a boutique there in 1970.
