LOS ANGELES (AP) — Earthquake early warning alerts will become publicly available throughout California this week, the Governor's Office of Emergency Services said Wednesday.The system's statewide debut Thursday will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake that ravaged the San Francisco Bay area on Oct. 17, 1989, as well as the annual Great Shakeout safety drill.The warnings produced by the ShakeAlert system will be pushed through a smartphone app called MyShake and the same wireless notification system that issues Amber Alerts.The state earthquake app, developed at the University of California, Berkeley, is available for download to IOS users through iTunes and through GooglePlay stores for Android phones.The system does not predict earthquakes. Rather, it detects the start of an earthquake and calculates location, intensity and sends alerts to areas where shaking is likely to occur from quakes of magnitude 4.5 or greater.The alerts have been in development for years and last year were made broadly available to businesses, utilities, schools and other entities.Large-scale public notification has been available for Los Angeles County since the start of the year through an app developed for the city of Los Angeles, but it hasn't been triggered yet. 1300

LONG BEACH (CNS) - Three former Long Beach Police Department officers wrote violent threats against Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King on a private Facebook page for California law enforcement officers, police confirmed Thursday.King, in an article he penned on Medium, said a private Facebook group for California law enforcement officers had members using their real names and "openly plotting and planning (his) assassination."Screenshots included in the Medium article show current and former officers of various California agencies saying "Toss this guy from a helicopter," "Need a sniper," "Shaun King needs to be put down," "I recommend retro active birth control, or post birth abortion, whatever you wanna call it," and other threats apparently aimed at King.According to King, the threats began with retired Long Beach Police Officer Laura Tartgaglione, who allegedly wrote, "The man who put this tweet out today is a FOUNDING MEMBER OF BLM, he also introduced Bernie Sanders at his attempted presidential run. I think (California) needs to start putting a team together of retired military, police and NRA MEMBERS! We have no protection. These criminals that the Democrats created need to be stopped."Information regarding the threats were sent to the Long Beach Police Department's Investigations Bureau for an internal review and recommendations regarding a criminal investigation, the department said. LOS ANGELES, (KGTV) – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced that the agency is offering ,000 for information on the whereabouts of stolen firearms believed to be in San Diego.Authorities with the bureau say 18 firearms were stolen from Turner’s Outdoorsman in the early morning hours of May 1.Officials added that one person is already in custody for the theft, but that ATF is asking for help identifying the location of the guns.“Firearms theft from licensed gun dealers is one of the top priorities for ATF,” said McMullan. “Experience shows these guns will likely end up being used in a crime. These guns in the hands of criminals endanger everyone’s safety. LITTLETON, Colo. — A local woman says she entered the My Oreo Creation contest, her idea was picked as a finalist, yet she's never been acknowledged by Oreo as a winner.Taylor Young, of Lone Tree, submitted her idea for a cherry cola flavored Oreo last May. Shortly after submitting her idea, she received a note from Oreo and its parent company, Mondelez International, Inc., that read, "Dear Taylor Young, Thanks for sending us your idea. We thought it was so delicious, we turned it into this one-of-a-kind creation just for you. Straight from the wonder vault. Enjoy!"They also sent her a small packet with two cherry cola flavored Oreo cookies inside."It is pretty good,” Young said. “I tried it.”Young was on cloud nine.The contest states all finalists are awarded ,000. And it states the person who submits the winning flavor will win 0,000.“I, from what I can tell, was the first person to tweet that idea," Young said.But then, for Young, the contest turned sour. Oreo stopped communicating with her. Months went by and in December, she saw her cookie on store shelves.“I reached out to them and I said, 'I'm seeing that my cookie won," Young said.Oreo finally responded saying in part, cherry cola was already in development — so it wasn't her idea, it was theirs."That's not cool," Young said. LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- "The world is ready to heal," said Ashley Judd when asked about "Me Too" and the Time's Up movement and her date to the Oscars, Actress Mira Sorvino. Both women have accused Harvey Weinstein of harassment and both are part of the Time's Up movement. In October 2017, The New York Times published Judd's and other women's accounts of sexual harassment by the Hollywood producer. In the interview, Judd recalled an incident where Weinstein "sent her up to his room, where he appeared in a bathrobe and asked if he could give her a massage..."Sorvino's accounts of Weinstein's behavior are similar. The actress told The New Yorker that she rejected Weinstein's advances, but found it difficult to land roles after doing so. On the Red Carpet Sunday night, both women were asked what the Time's Up movement meant to them. Both said they're fighting for all women to have equality and respect in all industries - not just in Hollywood. Their appearance on the red carpet together is a symbol that speaks nearly as loud as the all black dress code of the Golden Globe Awards in January.   1147
