Police in Connecticut says they've arrested a Jerry Thompson for allegedly decapitating his landlord.Hartford Police Department officials say they were called to a residence Sunday afternoon to check on the well being of Victor King, who neighbors had not seen in over a day.When officers arrived at the house, they found King's body on the kitchen floor, partially covered up with a sheet."It was soon discovered that the victim had sustained severe trauma to several parts of his body by means of a bladed instrument," officials said in a press release to E.W. Police in North Carolina are searching for a suspect that allegedly robbed a boy's lemonade stand at gunpoint.The Charlotte Observer reports that a 9-year-old boy was selling lemonade in Monroe, a suburb of Charlotte, on Sunday afternoon. The boy was approached by a teenager wearing a camouflage hat and a black shirt.The teen stuck a handgun in the boy's stomach and demanded that he hand over the money he made. "But you won’t believe that very tasty food is going to come from here."Palma says his rent will be about half of what it used to be in Pacific Beach. He also says moving into the Public Market means he no longer has to worry about all of the little things that come along with having a brick-and-mortar location."Things like trash, telephone, light, SDG&E," he explains. He says this will let him focus more on the food and customers. People across the U.S. are honoring loved ones who have passed from COVID-19 as part of a National Week of Mourning.Kristin Urquiza’s father, Mark, passed away from COVID-19 on June 30 in Arizona. She said in his obituary that "his death is due to the carelessness of the politicians who continue to jeopardize the health of brown bodies."Urquiza says her dad was one of her best friends and very generous guy. She’s speaking our with hopes of saving other people of color from the disease.“Seeing those disparities play out in my hometown, in my home neighborhood, and then having my dad go through this awful fight for his life and not be able to make it, I knew that I needed to speak my truth,” said Urquiza.Fiana Tulip's mother, Isabelle, was a respiratory therapist for 30 years. She was a year from retirement. Tulip says her mom continued to go into work even though she didn't have enough personal protective equipment and knew she was putting her life at risk. She passed away from COVID-19 on July 4 in Texas.Tulip says her mom was a “giant in her kindness,” as well as loving, giving, strong and resilient.“My mom was so brave, and I want her to be remembered as somebody who was thoughtful and who was generous and who was a hero, somebody who gave her life to save others,” said Tulip.She says in her mom's obituary "her undeserving death is due to the carelessness of politicians who undervalue health care workers."Mark and Isabelle are just two of the more than 210,000 lives lost to COVID-19 in the U.S.Tulip says if the country keeps ignoring the fact that people are dying, we’re going to have pretty traumatic effects later on.“So, it's important to feel and to share the warmth and to spread the love right now,” she said.“We are putting a stake in the ground to say we need to recognize, and recognition begins with collective mourning. Parts of Hawaii are under a hurricane watch as Category 3 Hurricane Douglas has its sights set on the island state. The hurricane watch is in effect for the Big Island and Maui County.Packing top winds of 115 MPH as of 11 a.m. HT (5 p.m. ET), Douglas is moving toward Hawaii at 18 MPH. The storm was positioned 785 miles from Hilo, or 985 miles from Honolulu.Douglas is relatively small, with hurricane-force winds only extending 25 miles from the center.While the powerful hurricane is in the open ocean, it has been slowly losing strength. The National Hurricane Center projects it will weaken into a tropical storm by Sunday night.
