DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) -- High winds in the Descanso area knocked over two big rig trucks early Thursday morning, prompting emergency crews to rescue people trapped inside.At around 4 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers were called to eastbound Interstate 8 near Japatul Valley Road after reports a semitruck toppled over due to the strong winds swirling in the area.Two people were removed from the truck and taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.Moments later and a few hundred feet away, crews rushed to another big rig that was knocked down by the winds.Crews broke the truck’s windshield and extricated a man, woman and dog trapped inside the cab. It is unknown if the couple and dog were injured.A High Wind Advisory was issued for I-8 from Lake Jennings to Forrester Road; high-profile vehicles are prohibited on that stretch of I-8. 872

Defense Secretary James Mattis has authorized the deployment of more troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, the Pentagon announced Friday.The deployment will start with an undetermined number of forces heading to the border by the end of the month, and could eventually grow in size to 800 troops or more, a defense official said.It's a move aimed at sending a message as a migrant caravan makes its way through Mexico, bound for the U.S. border, drawing the ire of President Trump.But it's important to note that even though troops are involved, the military isn't bracing for battle.Troops are not expected to come into contact with migrants, and they will be tasked with providing "mission-enhancing capabilities" along the southwest border, supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection's work there. 807

DENVER -- A police body camera video leaked to Scripps station KMGH in Denver shows the son of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock using a slur against an Aurora police officer during a traffic stop.“My dad’s the mayor, you f---ing f--got,” Jordan Hancock is shown saying in the video clip.“Of Denver? Well you’re in Aurora,” the officer responds.“Guess what, I’m about to get you fired you f---ing b---h,” Hancock is heard saying later.The video clip sent to KMGH by an anonymous source is only about 20 seconds long and ends with 22-year-old Hancock driving away. KMGH requested the full video from Aurora police but the request was declined.KMGH has learned that after requesting a copy of Jordan Hancock’s ticket and the body camera video, the Aurora Police Department alerted the office of Denver’s mayor. APD said it notified Mayor Hancock's office as a “courtesy.”A traffic ticket issued to Jordan Hancock says he was driving 65 miles an hour in a 40 miles per hour zone. For Anna Malic, December 17th is one of them.“It’s our 12 year anniversary,” Malic said.Tragically, this year will be different.“(The kids) realize that daddy’s not here anymore,” Malic said. “They really miss their dad.”For the children, it’s been a huge adjustment. To them, their dad was nothing short of heroic."He was very great,” said 11-year-old Ace. “He was selfless to everybody, even strangers.
