TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona authorities say a driver escaped injury when his car's windshield was pierced by the trunk of a saguaro cactus during a wreck Wednesday on the outskirts of Tucson.Pima County sheriff's Deputy Daniel Jelineo said the black sports car struck the cactus while crossing a median before ending up on the other side of a road and that the cactus ended up slamming into the car's windshield.The broken-off cactus ended up partially inside the car, with the rest jutting over car's hood.Jelineo said deputies detained the driver for further investigation after observing signs and symptoms of impairment.The driver's identity wasn't released. 671

Two Kansas girls whose disappearance from a Kansas home triggered a multi-state Amber Alert on Saturday were found safe in Oklahoma.The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Saturday night that it has recovered the girls and taken their father, 40-year-old Donny Jackson of Leavenworth, Kansas, into custody.Earlier on Saturday, The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said that Jackson may have been involved in the homicides of two other children, who were found dead at the home from where the girls had been abducted.The Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at a home around 1 p.m. local time Saturday, where deputies located two deceased juvenile males and discovered two young girls were missing.It's unknown exactly when the double homicide or the abduction occurred. US authorities will remove restrictions on importing African elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia.That means Americans will soon be able to hunt the endangered big game, an activity that garnered worldwide attention when a Minnesota dentist took Cecil, perhaps the world's most famous lion, near a wildlife park in Zimbabwe.A US Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman said the move will allow the two African countries to include US sport hunting as part of their management plans for the elephants and allow them to put "much-needed revenue back into conservation."Critics, however, note the restrictions were created by the Obama administration in 2014 because the African elephant population had dropped. The animals are listed in the US Endangered Species Act, which requires the US government to protect endangered species in other countries."We can't control what happens in foreign countries, but what we can control is a restriction on imports on parts of the animals," said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States.The number of elephants in the wild plummeted 30% overall between 2007 and 2014, despite large scale conservation efforts. UPDATE: The fire was 100 percent contained at 250 acres by Friday at 6:20 p.m. All lanes of SR-78 reopened by 5 p.m.RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Crews Thursday stopped the forward rate of spread of the Rangeland Fire burning in the Pasqual Valley near Ramona. The blaze started along San Pasqual Valley Road around 1 p.m. near the San Dieguito River Trail and quickly grew to 250 acres. The fire is 60 percent contained. The eastbound lanes on State Route 78 closed at Bandy Canyon Road due to the fire, but are expected to reopen by 10 p.m. The 78 will be down to one lane on Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Highland Valley Road was also closed between Bandy Canyon and Archie Moore Road due to a big rig that was stuck on the road.  803
