EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A judge increased bail for the woman accused of hitting a 9-year-old boy with her car and driving away last Thursday. Courtney Webber appeared in court for the very first time since the crash. Webber's bail was increased to 0,000. The 25-year-old is accused of running a red light and hitting the boy, on his bike, as he was crossing the street at the intersection of Sunshine Avenue and West Main Street in El Cajon. She was located about 12 hours later, hiding under a bed at her mother's Lakeside home. Court documents indicate Webber was on probation for a previous DUI conviction and had a suspended license. The 9-year-old boy hasn't been identified but attorneys tell 10News he is still recovering at a local hospital. E-cigarette maker Juul Labs says they are planning to make a significant "reduction in force" as it looks to the future.The company announced the move in a statement as it also looks to pull out of some international markets as they "have not provided the kind of return necessary given the cost to continue investing in the market."According to the Wall Street Journal, the company is reportedly looking to lay off about 1,200 employees, nearly half its workforce. Earlier this year, the company laid off 1,000 employees, Forbes reported.Last year, at least four lawsuits were filed against the company claiming its ads were targeting young people.They also stopped selling several flavored products in the United States last year.The company also replaced its CEO last year.The company said they are looking to rebuild trust with its key stakeholders and the public."To better serve our mission, we must prioritize how we use our resources to execute on our long-term, focused approach," the company said in a statement. (KGTV) - A grieving dog owner says a routine surgery turned deadly after his dog suffered burns during a brief stay.In early May, John San Filippo brought 11-year-old Sofia, a Boxer mix, to the Bastet Veterinary Hospital for knee surgery."Dropped her off in the morning and picked up her up in the afternoon. She was doing great," said San Filippo.Six days after the surgery, San Filippo found several oozing sores on her right side. The vet told him the electric blanket used to warm Sofia had somehow burned her. "I was stunned, but at that point, it was just three little spots," said San Filippo.Within weeks, the full extent of the burns emerged: 3rd- and 4th-degree burns on over 40% of her body. Sofia developed sepsis and pneumonia, before she died in early June."Just broke down crying ... brought her in for knee surgery and my dog was barbecued," said San Filippo. San Filippo has filed a complaint with the State Veterinary Medical Board and wants the business shut down.Bastet Veterinary Hospital released the following statement: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sofia, which was a result of thermal burns derived from the malfunction of our patient warming system. We are committed to working with all involved parties to help recoup financial losses, and our hearts grieve along with Sofia'a family for their loss."Experts suggest asking your veterinarian about how they warm animals during anesthesia.
