SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken woman is making a plea for tips after hundreds of family heirlooms were stolen out of her Allied Gardens home.Last Friday afternoon, Mary Anne Madruga got a wrenching call from her husband."Just a moment of disbelief and shock. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local musician is facing a painful COVID-19 toll, losing three family members and five friends to the virus.David Whitman's first loss to COVID-19 came in late April with the passing of Jeanne Fisher, his great-aunt."Went downhill fairly quickly and passed away at a nursing home in the Chicago area," said Whitman.In early June, his grandmother Beverly Whitman, 92, became sick at a nursing home in Wisconsin. She died June 13."I know the morphine they gave her. She really needed it. It was not an easy way to go," said Whitman.A few days before she passed, she was able to share a room with her husband of 69 years, Robert Whitman, 93, also diagnosed with coronavirus. He died three days after her death."His condition deteriorated pretty quickly I think after my grandmother passed away," said Whitman.Whitman's emotions are still raw."It's really tough not to be with family, not being able to get together to mourn," said Whitman.Whitman, a professional musician, is also grieving the death of five friends from the world of music. A few days ago, he released a recording of his award-winning song "I Have A Friend," which was inspired by his grandmother. It's a recording that helped him grieve."There is a healing aspect to sharing your humanity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new report from California State University, San Marcos, shows San Diego County's craft beer industry continued its uphill climb last year.In 2018, San Diego County saw its craft brewing family grow to a total of 155 independent craft brewers, bringing the region to a total of 202 operating brewery locations, the report revealed. The study was compiled by CSUSM, the school's Office of Business Research and Analysis, and San Diego Brewers Guild.Data did show that brewery openings slowed starting in 2017, but have rose slightly since.The majority of breweries are packed into Central San Diego, hosting 55% of craft breweries in the county, the report says. North County holds the second largest piece, with 32.5% of breweries, following by East County with 8.1%, and the South Bay with 4.4%.RELATED: First-of-its-kind craft beverage project planned for EscondidoYear-over-year, craft beer's economic impact to San Diego grew 6% in 2018 to an estimated .2 billion. The index surveys how respondents feel about barrelage production, distribution, employment, and capital expenditures.The report, adding that San Diego will soon see its own Museum of Beer in 2020, highlights the region's outlook for craft beer, breweries, and the industry's impact.When it comes to the style of beer drinkers prefer most, nationwide IPAs took 25.2% of the market, followed by belgain white (20.6%), other styles (14.5%), seasonal (13.6%), and lagers (11.1%). SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego family wants to warn other about daytime burglars who may be posing as door-to-door salespeople.The Alvarado family just moved to a home in Allied Gardens. It is a safe neighborhood, but they noticed there are a lot of solicitors.Tuesday afternoon they were burglarized by a couple of young men wearing matching outfits.“I left the house for 25 minutes to pick up my daughters from school," Vanessa Alvarado said. "When I was coming down the street I noticed two young men walking quickly down the street, from my driveway, carrying both my guitars."Her daughters were also in the car as they drove up to their home, and burglars.“They looked up and saw me. They knew who I was,” Alvarado said. "They knew my car and they just sped down the street, made a sharp right turn."One of her daughters noticed the young men’s matching clothes.“I think they looked like salesmen. I noticed one of the had a binder in his hands with several things on top, which turned out to be my personal belongings,” Alvarado said.The home was locked at the time of the burglary.The thieves went into the backyard and broke in through a bedroom window, which was open a few inches but had a stopper device on it aimed to prevent anyone from opening the window further.Regardless, the thieves pried off the screen, and pushed the window open.The men made off with numerous items, including guitars, Kindles and jewelry. They left no fingerprints.“I went from trying to be strong for my daughters to realizing my wedding rings were gone and at that point, my heart just shattered into a million pieces,” Alvarado said.Now, the family is getting security cameras and they have dowels in the windows so they can't be opened.  1744

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man arrested Tuesday after leading authorities on a pursuit through the East County Tuesday is being charged with two separate stabbings that occurred hours earlier.San Diego County Sheriff's (SDSO) deputies arrested Patrick Douglas, 51, near Highway 94 and Freezer Blvd. following a vehicle pursuit with deputies earlier Tuesday.Douglas was charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with two stabbings the same day in El Cajon and La Mesa.Deputies said the La Mesa stabbing occurred at the 7-Eleven at 4610 Avocado Blvd. A female delivery driver for Frito Lays, identified as 35-year-old Dina Hammond, staggered into the store with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso after having just made a delivery. 757
