(AP) — Ventura County leaders have approved restraining orders and other enforcement actions against individuals and businesses who refuse to comply with local and state health orders to control the spread of the coronavirus. The decision by the Board of Supervisors gave the county counsel discretion to seek court enforcement of health mandates. The meeting was called days after the pastor of Godspeak Calvary Chapel in Newbury Park said he would continue holding indoor services despite restrictions on large gatherings. (KGTV) - Amid a COVID-related cancellation at a Valley Center cemetery, a community is coming together to help save an annual tradition.Valley Center Cemetery is the final resting place to more than 300 veterans. On Friday, local florist Jenelle Brinneman learned an annual holiday sight would not be laid out.She says the local chapter of a nonprofit that puts down Christmas wreaths at military grave markers announced there would be no wreaths, citing logistical problems in placing them amid COVID-19 restrictions and stay-at-home orders."Our hearts dropped, because we know how much it means," said Brinneman.On Memorial Day and Veterans Day, Brinneman raised money to place roses at military grave sites amid similar cancellations."There were strangers thanking us. People were crying, watching us put roses down," said Brinneman.Undeterred after the most recent disappointment, Brinneman posted on Facebook on Friday a call for donations to make wreath sprays, a smaller version of wreaths. When she returned home Saturday evening, she discovered something astounding."I just started crying right there. Our town is amazing ... My driveway was filled with pine, cedar, ribbons, and wreaths companies were about to throw away," said Brinneman.Brinneman set up a workshop in her driveway. Dozens of volunteers have signed up to help assemble."This is what the Christmas spirit is all about," said Brinneman.She's also hoping to include message from kids."It will be so great to walk past and see a little note attached from an amazing child in our town," said Brinneman.Brinneman says come Christmas Eve -- thanks to a community's support -- she'll be able to place the sprays at every military grave marker in the cemetery."They deserve to be recognized. Seeing the wreaths on the grave markers is something unexplainable. Because of the community, loves ones will see those wreaths," said Brinneman.Brinneman is still in need of a lot of messages from kids. UPDATE 2 p.m., Apr. 18: Lifeguards removed the shark advisory signs at Silver Strand.SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Lifeguards warned beachgoers in Silver Strand after several agencies spotted a shark they say could be a great white off the coast Wednesday. According to authorities, the shark was initially spotted by Border Patrol agents in a helicopter above Imperial Beach around 10:30 a.m. The shark was also spotted by a lifeguard in a boat approximately two miles off the coast of Imperial Beach. RELATED: New shark detecting technology being testedThe shark is believed to be between seven and eight foot long. Lifeguards in Imperial Beach say they believe the shark could be a great white. The shark was again seen about half a mile off the coast of Silver Strand, prompting lifeguards to warn beachgoers. Lifeguards chose not to issue a formal public warning because the shark was of moderate size, wasn't behaving aggressively and was in an area with few people nearby, City News Service reports. More than 3,000 gathered in downtown San Diego while roughly 300 demonstrated in Del Mar. "The large group of 3000+ peaceful protestors have begun to march onto Ash St. They will be going North on 6th towards Hillcrest. We will be temporarily closing numerous streets to allow the march to continue," police said on Twitter. "The group is still North on 6th Ave at Balboa Park. Traffic in Hillcrest will be impacted shortly. Motorists, please be patient and expect delays," the department added. "I've been racially profiled four times throughout my life," said the protest's organizer, Charles Brown. "I want discussions, I want conversations, this cannot continue to happen."Brown decided to plan the protest Tuesday.The protest ended before 2 p.m. in front of the pride flag in Hillcrest.
