SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Less than a day after announcing that two students have contracted coronavirus, San Diego State University officials confirmed Thursday that two more students tested positive for the disease.Thursday's announcement raises the number of coronavirus cases on SDSU's campus to four since kicking off the fall semester this week.Officials said the two new cases are unrelated to the previous cases, and that the two students had only been to the campus to see testing at the Student Health Services. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In a move to help shed the mounting costs of a real estate deal gone wrong, the City of San Diego says it is stopping lease payments on the sharply criticized 101 Ash Street building.The city sent a letter to Cisterra Development, which brokered the real estate deal, that it will be "suspending further lease payments for the 1010 Ash Street building," starting with the Sept. 1 payment. The letter adds that the city will not be making any lease payments "until these issues are fairly resolved.""The City has lost use of the building due, in part, to direct physical loss and damage to the premises, including widespread and negligent disturbance of asbestos," the city's letter reads.RELATED: Options and possible consultation costs for vacant buildingThe property at 101 Ash St. has sat vacant in downtown San Diego for most of the last four years. As it remains empty and unused, taxpayers are paying a daily bill to the tune of ,000.The city intended to move 1,100 city employees into the building, but officials soon discovered problem after problem to the site's 19 floors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Local and federal authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a father suspected of abducting his two children and fleeing to Mexico.Authorities said on Jan. 12, 2019, Foong Lian Chin’s ex-wife dropped off their two sons, with the understanding that he would return them to her on the following day.However, when Chin did not return the kids, the ex-wife “called law enforcement to check Chin’s address” but “there was no answer at his house.” Law enforcement also tried to reach Chin by phone but could not get a hold of him.On Jan. 16, 2019, a court gave Chin’s ex-wife full custody of the couple’s children and an arrest warrant was issued for Chin. Authorities said the million warrant is for parental child abduction.According to authorities, investigators learned Chin took his sons -- 8-year-old Huaiyu Chin and 7-year-old Binyu Chin -- to Mexico.Chin, who immigrated to the U.S. from Singapore in the 1980s, has lived in New York, Southern California, and Baja California.Chin and his sons were believed to have last been spotted in Tijuana, Mexico.Chin is Asian, 47 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighs 130 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Local leaders say it's going to cost millions of dollars to prevent toxic waste from flowing into the Tijuana River Valley, but it's a bill they are willing to pay. Dozens of local leaders and federal agencies came together this morning with a common goal, to prevent the massive amounts of sewage from flowing into our San Diego County beaches. "427 million gallons of sewage has hit our water and our beaches just this year alone," says Port of San Diego Commissioner, Dan Malcolm. During today's meeting, leaders were given possible solutions on how to tackle the problem. "To divert sewage and wastewater flow away from the Tijuana River Valleys, so that it can either be treated or diverted to outflow pumps, that would pump the water far out in the Pacific Ocean," says Mayor of Coronado Richard Bailey.The costs are estimated up to 0 million. Local leaders say sewage isn't the only contaminate in the water. A chemical test was done that showed things like herbicides, arsenic, and lead are also flowing into the sea. "The time of talk is over," says Serge Dedina, Mayor of Imperial Beach. "The time of actually doing things and preventing sewage and toxic waste from reaching our beach is now."Local leaders say the next plan of action is to ask Congress for help with funding. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In a graphic display, a former charter boat captain demonstrated Wednesday how to make the knots found on Rebecca Zahau’s body, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.Zahau was discovered bound and hanging from a balcony of the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado in 2011.While the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office determined the death was a suicide, Zahau’s family believes she was murdered.The Zahau family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Adam Shacknai, the brother of Rebecca’s boyfriend and the only other person in the home at the time of her death.Lindsey Philpott used a lifelike mannequin covered with a white sheet to show the overhand and clove hitch knots, which, according to the U-T report, Philpott said were common for nautical uses.Shacknai works as a tugboat captain.Philpott said under cross-examination that both knots are simple and widely used, the Union-Tribune reported.The Zahau wrongful death trial, which was in its fifth day Wednesday, is expected to last four weeks. 1034
