SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Six robbery suspects were arrested after reportedly assaulting a 14-year-old over a cell phone and leading police on a pursuit late Friday.A 14-year-old boy was walking in the 4400 block of Newport Avenue in Point Loma Heights when a Toyota Rav4 pulled alongside him just before 9:30 p.m., according to San Diego Police.Three suspects, one of whom was armed, got out and demanded the victim's cell phone at gunpoint, police said, before the armed suspect hit the boy over the head with the gun. The suspects then fled the area with the boy's cell phone.Police located the Toyota and tried to pull the vehicle over, prompting the suspects to lead police on a pursuit into the Lincoln Park area. Four juvenile and two adult suspects jumped out of the vehicle at Willie James Jones Ave. and tried to run but were all taken into custody after short foot pursuits, police said. 899

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sea World employees went on a rescue mission Saturday to free a Sea lion pup from a plastic ribbon wrapped around his neck on Boomer's Beach.The timing is poetic, on World Oceans Day. A day that "provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean," according to WorldOceansDay.org.Sea World Animal Care Specialist Brooke Hubbard said they had been monitoring the pup and received another call Saturday. This time it sounded like the 2-3-year-old sea lion was in an area where they could safely remove the ribbon.A rescue that saved the mammal's life, "when there is lining around it's neck it can constrict it's airways and it's esophagus making it so they can't breathe or eat over time," Hubbard said.Video from her supervisor's perspective shows what it was like when the team snuck up on the sea lion, threw their net and cut the ribbon off with a pair of ordinary scissors.When they released the Sea lion, he scooted back to the ocean, "that's the best feeling in the world, especially since we didn't have to bring it back here and rehabilitate it," she said.Hubbard said this is is completely preventable, "please don't litter at the beach. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego chefs will try and set the world record for most pieces of sushi made in 48 hours this month.Sushi Festival San Diego will see Chef Jeff Roberto and several others try to produce 100,000 pieces of sushi in 48 hours, from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28.Roberto, who owns Sushi On A Roll, says the feat has been in the works for a while now.RELATED: San Diego is among top 'foodie cities' in America, report says"This has been a long time coming. Sushi On A Roll will set the world record of sushi made in 48 hours," Robert wrote in an email. "I'm excited to have my friends in the industry to be a part of this and to make this happen."Tickets for the event range from 0 - 5, including intimate omakase experiences from featured chefs and VIP tickets including all-you-can-eat dining — because there will definitely be plenty to go around. A variety of local taiko groups and other performers will also provide live entertainment during the event.Profits from the event will benefit the Friends of Rollo nonprofit, which take youth fishing and educates them about the ocean ecosystem. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some residents picking up trash in a City Heights neighborhood were met by a disturbing sight and an ominous warning near a homeless encampment.Blocks from an elementary school on Fairmont Avenue, Matt Armstrong and a friend collected more than seven bags of trash in a culvert near the small encampment Wednesday. The next day, he and his friend were at it again, when they saw it. In front of a tent and hanging from a limb was a noose and a handmade sign inches away."It says, 'Trespassers will hang by the heads,'" said Armstrong.Armstrong, a black belt, wasn't intimidated, but the warning is one he takes seriously."Something like this sends a message that they will hurt you. There are no rules. It's disconcerting," said Armstrong.The safety issue becoming more prominent the last few years as more and more local residents have reported to 10News about encounters with aggressive transients. Unwilling to back down, Armstrong ventured back into the brush, where several homeless told him the transient who hung the noose wasn't there."They told me it was a joke, but it's not funny to me. People should not feel unsafe in their own neighborhood," said Armstrong.Armstrong also filed a complaint about the noose with the city. We reached out to city officials but have yet to hear back. 1346
