WASHINGTON — U.S. long-term mortgage rates fell this week, reaching record lows for the 13th time this year amid fresh signs of weakness in the pandemic-ravaged economy. Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac reported that the average rate on the 30-year benchmark loan declined to 2.72% from 2.84% last week. The average rate on the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage fell to 2.28% from 2.34%. The low rates in 2020 have spurred demand in the housing market. The National Associated of Realtors says housing offers for single-family homes have increased for six consecutive months. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Two brothers are behind bars after deputies say they got into a road rage incident and robbed a driver in Vista.On Tuesday, just before 9:30 a.m. near the 1300 block of Melrose Way, San Diego Sheriff's Department says Matthew, 29, and John, 23, Giordano were driving in a lifted grey Silverado pick-up truck. Deputies say for some reason, Matthew became angry and began to follow another vehicle and displayed a weapon to the driver.At one point, the truck cut off the driver and came to a stop, deputies say.Deputies said Matthew got out of his truck and started punching the driver's side window. Once the driver opened the door, Matthew took about ,000 worth of jewelry and money from the driver, deputies added.During the confrontation, John used a metal tool to smash the driver's windshield and the windshield of a second car not involved in the original incident, deputies say. The brothers then drove off.One of the victims suffered minor injuries from broken glass. Damage to both cars was estimated between ,000 and ,000.SDSO investigators say they gathered enough evidence to serve a search warrant in the 1500 block of Sapphire Lane, where the Giordanos were arrested on several charges, including conspiracy and robbery. 1271

WASHINGTON — Vandalism at four downtown Washington churches after rallies in support of President Donald Trump is exposing rifts among people of faith as the nation confronts bitter post-election political divisions. The houses of worship that were vandalized included two historically Black churches where people ripped down Black Lives Matter banners. Video posted to social media showed one banner being burned, defacement that police say is being investigated as possible hate crimes. Rev. Dr. Ianther Mills, the senior pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church, compared the vandalism of the banners to a cross burning in a statement released on Sunday. On Monday, she said she hoped evangelical Christians condemn the vandalism, but added that she didn't want to make her statements about politics.At the Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church nearby, a banner with colors supporting LGBTQ rights was slashed by protesters.“People need to denounce it and call it an act of racial violence,” Claycomb Sokol told The Associated Press. “People who have been really quick to be silent need to wrestle with what actually took place on our streets on Saturday, and how silence can actually be a sign of support, of complicity.”The vandalism also raised questions among some pastors and members at the churches about why more fellow Christians were not speaking out against the incidents. 1398

(KGTV) -- Certain businesses in Vista will be allowed to take their operations outdoors in light of the state’s COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions.Vista officials said a Temporary Emergency Order was issued Wednesday “to relax outdoor use for personal care services, salon and barber shop services, and gym and fitness services to temporarily relocate their existing business operations to an adjacent outdoor area during the COVID-19 pandemic.”The city’s order comes as indoor operations across the state shut down -- effective July 15 -- for gyms, houses of worship, non-critical office businesses, hair salons and barber shops, indoor malls and personal care services.Vista businesses that would like to move services outdoors are asked to contact the city’s Economic Development Department at 760-639-6165 or via email at EconDev@CityofVista.com.In a statement, Vista Mayor Judy Ritter said, “It’s a top priority for the City of Vista to do everything we can to support our local businesses during this pandemic and still protect the health and safety of the community. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - For the third time in recent months, a local Boy Scout troop is coping with a heartbreaking theft.As they were getting ready to leave on a camping trip Friday, Boy Scout Troop 722 in Vista realized their camping trailer was gone.Without a trailer, future trips are now in jeopardy.The trailer was parked in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church parking lot when someone broke the padlock and stole the trailer. Because the troop has dealt with vandalism in the past, all their gear is kept in a shipping container. The trailer has a unique bolt on its door, which was put in to prevent people from breaking in.Replacing the trailer will cost the troop ,000.Community members can donate on a Go Fund Me page set up for the troop. If you spot the trailer, contact the Vista Sheriff's Department.In September, a Chula Vista Troop's trailer was stolen, as well as one earlier this month one in University City.
