SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials say free flu shots will be offered at six events in the coming days, just as flu season picks up around the county.Health officials say this helps lower the risk of San Diegans getting influenza and the coronavirus at the same time and prevent the local healthcare system from being overwhelmed.The upcoming clinics will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first flu shot clinic will occur on Oct. 22 at North Central Public Health Center, 5055 Ruffin Road.The others will take place:-- Saturday, Oct. 24 at South Public Health Center, 690 Oxford Street, Chula Vista.-- Tuesday, Oct. 27 at North Coastal Public Health Center, 3609 Ocean Ranch Blvd, Oceanside.-- Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Central Public Health Center VIP Trailer, 3177A Oceanview Blvd.-- Thursday, Oct. 29 at East Public Health Center, 367 N. Magnolia Avenue, El Cajon.-- Tuesday, November 3 at North Inland Public Health Center, 640 W. The metrics were then organized under either "budget and participation" and "sports and outdoors."San Diego ranked first in fitness centers and sports centers per capita, seventh in baseball and softball diamonds per capita, 22nd in basketball hoops per capita, 16th in parkland acres per capita, and 30th in walking. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are looking for two suspects witnesses say were part of a brutal attack where a man beat another man to the ground and hit him in the head with a sledgehammer.Robert Kern was driving on his way to run errands around 2:45 p.m. when he saw a man with long blonde hair pulled into a ponytail, wearing a black shirt and jeans, start attacking another man.He said the men were in the middle of the intersection of the Westbound 94 on-ramp at Kelton Road. Kern said the man punched and kicked the other man to the ground, then used a sledgehammer, hitting the man's head.Kern said a good Samaritan stepped in and broke up the fight, that's when Kern snapped a couple photos for police and called 9-1-1.The man who was attacked was taken to a local hospital. Inside the ambulance the man was writhing in pain. Police said he was drunk and will be released Sunday night.Kern said the area is well known for homelessness and it's sad to see violence like that.Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the two people in the picture, if you have any information you can call anonymously at (888) 580-8477. 1172

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County is seeing far fewer influenza cases at this point in the flu season compared to last year, due in part to coronavirus-related safety measures, according to public health officials.So far this season, the county has recorded 39 influenza cases, compared to 1,220 cases at this point last season. Flu season generally runs from October through May, with flu activity peaking in December and February.The county says it's "very likely" physical distancing, hand washing, and mask-wearing are contributing to the low flu activity."Influenza activity remains very low to date this season in San Diego County. This is very likely due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask-wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19," the county's influenza report said. Health officials say influenza vaccination rates are also contributing to the lower numbers. So far this season, 1,043,552 San Diegans have been vaccinated for the flu. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego and National City Police detained three people and sought a fourth Friday at a South Bay home where a neighbor said shots were fired.The incident started Friday about 5 p.m. at Alpha and 47th streets in National City. A woman who lives near the home told 10News she heard gunfire. A 10News crew on the scene saw a man and woman leave the home with their hands raised. Police said three people were detained for questioning. Officers were searching for a fourth person in relation to the incident.There were no reports of injuries. 10News is monitoring breaking developments. 611
