SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A hiker who thought he discovered a puppy along a San Diego trail in March actually ended up taking in a coyote pup.San Diego Humane Society said the man was walking his dog on March 22 in Tierrasanta when he thought he had discovered an abandoned puppy. He ended up bringing the animal home and calling the Humane Society to report his discovery.Humane Law Enforcement found that the puppy wasn't a pooch at all, but actuallyin fact a coyote pup.RELATED: Rattlesnake season officially begins in SoCalOfficers brought the little coyote to the society's Project Wildlife, which works to rehabilitate wildlife for release back into the wild. The pup was then transferred for care at Fund for Animals in Ramona.SDHS said the pup's mother may have been moving the den when the hiker discovered the animal. Coyotes move their dens regularly to protect their young or re-use their den multiple times. 922

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local woman says a water meter device in the Midway District has been leaking gallons of water for at least two years, but no one will fix it. She emailed Team 10 investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner after contacting multiple government agencies to report the wasted water. The backflow device sits just off of Sports Arena Boulevard. When 10News visited it last week, it was dripping steady streams of water.“It’s a problem,” says Diane Ang, who works nearby. She says there's so much leaking water, that the surrounding transient population uses the water to fills up their bottles. Containers of shampoo and soap wrappers are scattered around. Ang tells 10News that people bathe in the water. At one point, she says, people grew a garden next to the device because the ground was so saturated with water. “[They had] tomatoes and some other vegetables,” she adds.There's no property tag on the device, so Ang called the City of San Diego at least three times but couldn’t get any help. She filled out multiple requests for assistance on the City’s "Get it Done” website, but there was no resolution. She was told the backflow device might belong to the Navy. She tells us that she made several attempts to get in touch with someone at the Navy. She says she spent at least two or three years trying to get the issue fixed. “No one cares. No one cares,” she adds.10News wanted to know how much water was leaking, so we timed one of the flowing streams using a measuring bucket. What we discovered was that thousands of gallons of water may have been wasted in the last few years. We took our information to Mathnasium of Point Loma. The math tutoring company found that 21,000 gallons would have be lost in one year alone, assuming the water had been leaking at the same rate, continuously. “It’s such a huge waste,” says Ang. 10News contacted the City of San Diego. A spokesperson directed us to the Navy. A weeks ago, we reached out Naval Base Point Loma. This Tuesday, a media spokesperson for Naval Base Point Loma sent us an email which reads, “We appreciate everyone who took the time to bring this leak to our attention. Our Naval Base Point Loma Public Works team is taking action to fix the leak today. Conserving our natural resources is a high priority and is very important to all of us at Naval Base Point Loma. We encourage active participation by contacting us directly at nbpl_pao@navy.mil or use the “Get-It-Done San Diego” app for the City of San Diego. [It] is a quick way for anyone in the community to report service issues (street lights, traffic signals, trash recycling, sidewalks, street flooding, etc.)” 10News verified that the leak has been addressed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Mission Hills business complex plagued by homeless loiterers for weeks posted videos on Ring Neighbors Sunday, receiving sympathy and frustration from the community.The latest video, taken Saturday night at 10:20 p.m. shows a man walking away from a business's door. The caption said the man was trying the door handle.The first of six videos is dated June 26th. Just before 1 a.m. it shows what looks like a man walking a bike into an alcove where the mailboxes hang on the wall, and setting up a walker.Then, July first just before 2 a.m. a different man walks a bicycle in, surveys the mailboxes with a flashlight, talking with a friend who walks in behind him carrying two bags. The second man said he stays there a lot.July 16th, around 3 a.m. a man looks like he's arranging an area to sleep. July 24th, at 11:44 p.m. a woman comes in sits down and charges her phone. The caption on the video says the landlord removed the electrical outlet after the video was recorded.July 31st around 10:15 p.m. the owner spoke through the Ring doorbell, asking if she could help the homeless man who was sleeping in front of her business. He replied, "No you can't help me with anything, thank you though, I'm just sitting here for a minute, thank you for interrupting my peace and quiet, thank you. I hate humanity, I hate people." She responded, "Well you're actually on private property right now," he fired back, "I'm on private property everywhere I go, I don't care." He then told her to burn in hell, packed up and left."It's infectious for every neighborhood," neighbor Jeff Olson said. He moved into the neighborhood in April and says he doesn't see as many homeless people in Mission Hills compared to El Cajon."It's a shame. What do you do? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A La Jolla hardware store is being forced to remove their popcorn machine they say was used to give the buttery treat to customers for free over the last 25 years.According to a food inspection report, the Meanley and Son Hardware on the 7700 block of Girard was investigated for serving popcorn without a permit."Everybody has had fun with this until now, but we have to obey the law," said co-owner Bob Meanley.One of the store's owners says the inspection happened after someone complained.A customer reportedly saw another person reach into the popcorn machine barehanded."I’m sorry we can’t continue with the popcorn, but we’ll do it with everything else," added Meanley.In the report, the inspector said the small Gold Medal brand popcorn maker was seen in use and with “popped popcorn prepared.”The report forces the hardware store to stop making popcorn and to remove the popcorn machine from the building.If the shop wants to give away popcorn, according to the health department, they’ll have to go through the permitting process. A process which will also legally require that the store install three compartment sinks. The store says staff regularly cleaned the machine and refilled it with popcorn throughout the day for customers to enjoy.The hardware shop has an extensive history in La Jolla. The store was opened in 1948 when the niece of Ellen B. Scripps along with her husband and son established the business. 1507
