(KGTV) - A grieving dog owner says a routine surgery turned deadly after his dog suffered burns during a brief stay.In early May, John San Filippo brought 11-year-old Sofia, a Boxer mix, to the Bastet Veterinary Hospital for knee surgery."Dropped her off in the morning and picked up her up in the afternoon. She was doing great," said San Filippo.Six days after the surgery, San Filippo found several oozing sores on her right side. The vet told him the electric blanket used to warm Sofia had somehow burned her. "I was stunned, but at that point, it was just three little spots," said San Filippo.Within weeks, the full extent of the burns emerged: 3rd- and 4th-degree burns on over 40% of her body. Sofia developed sepsis and pneumonia, before she died in early June."Just broke down crying ... brought her in for knee surgery and my dog was barbecued," said San Filippo. San Filippo has filed a complaint with the State Veterinary Medical Board and wants the business shut down.Bastet Veterinary Hospital released the following statement: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sofia, which was a result of thermal burns derived from the malfunction of our patient warming system. We are committed to working with all involved parties to help recoup financial losses, and our hearts grieve along with Sofia'a family for their loss."Experts suggest asking your veterinarian about how they warm animals during anesthesia. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nearly 1,000 students left without answers after three charter schools forced to shut down. In a lawsuit filed by the Grossmont Union High School District in 2015, a judge ruled against the charter schools in Lemon Grove, El Cajon and Lakeside demanding they shut their doors June 28 for good. The charter students say they’re non-traditional and don’t want to go back into public schools. The district superintendent says they charter schools were unlawful when the charters got authorization through the Julian and Borrego Springs school districts. 586

(KGTV) -- A rally was held Monday afternoon in El Cajon to not only celebrate the holiday season, but to also call on local leaders to fully reopen businesses and schools.The “All I Want for Christmas is Freedom” rally took place at the El Cajon Centennial Plaza, located on 200 Civic Center Way.The event was organized by the group Re-Open San Diego and was a “free and safe family event to save the spirit of Christmas, enjoy food, shopping, listening to the Mayor of El Cajon [Bill Wells] play live music, and to advocate for fully reopening San Diego businesses and schools.”State Sen. Brian Jones, Rep. Darrell Issa, and Peggy Hall with TheHealthyAmerican.org will be among those speaking at the rally. Many say they believed businesses can reopen safely."Let these people get back to work and be safe, take care of their employees, take care of their customers and open up in a safe manner," Jones said. (KGTV) — An El Cajon Popeyes location has been approved to reopen after county health officials deemed the location an "imminent health hazard," forcing a temporary closure.Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 110 Jamacha Rd. was closed this week after an inspection by the county Department of Environmental Health (DEH) on Jan. 21, 2020 found a cockroach infestation, according to the notice. That same day and the next, the location underwent pest control treatment and a complete sanitation of the restaurant.A 10News viewer reached out after finding the location shuttered.The DEH returned Thursday and determined the infestation was cleared, scoring an A (100%), allowing the restaurant to reopen.A routine follow-up inspection will be conducted in 60-90 days, according to the city.10News reached out to Popeyes for comment, but have not heard back. 873
