(KGTV) - The day after Christmas, a Miramar cidery owner woke up to learn a "grinch" broke in, stole items, and broke his handmade furniture.Owner of Serpentine Cider Sean Harris got the text while he was visiting his parents, out of town, for the holidays.He looked back at his security camera footage and around 10:45 p.m. Christmas night, a man in a backward baseball cap, black mask, and leather jacket moved furniture to get to a heat lamp and rolled it away.RELATED: SDPD investigating multiple brewery break-ins"Finally we're ready to close the doors on 2020 and hope for 2021 that is at least slightly better and then before the chapter closes we're able to throw this terrible, mutated, disgusting cherry on top," he said.The attack on his business cutting deeper during a year it's been hard to just survive, beaten down by constantly changing restrictions that have closed down his business multiple times.Now he has to replace stolen heat lamps and a canopy, "they cut our locks that chain everything together, they broke some of the furniture which is homemade by my father and I. They just stomped the furniture and broke it."That furniture holding deep meaning and a bond Harris and his father built during months of sweat and laughter, poured into the hand made pieces."The problem is is that he's in his 70s now and he's not going to be able to come down during COVID and build more of the stuff with me," he said. MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Police District 2 officers were heartbroken to find a dog abandoned for several days in a cold pickup truck.Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee crews were there just in time to see the rescue as police broke into the truck at 17th and National Avenue.Parking tickets on the windshield show it had been there since Saturday. As of Tuesday morning, the car still remains at that location.There was no food or water inside, but the seats were soiled with feces.Despite all of this, the dog seemed to be in good spirits.Offices took it to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, better known as MADACC.Doctor Libby Gutting checked him out. She tells us you should call police if you see a dog alone in a vehicle for more than an hour."An animal could suffer from hypothermia or even pass away from that so we definitely don't want to leave animals outside in any sort of condition especially for a car that's not running," said Dr. Gutting, Medical Director of MADACC.Dr. Gutting said the pitbull is in great shape.If his owner does not come in to claim him in five days, he could go up for adoption."Our concern is that this person has an issue with the way they need to care for their pet which means they need help," said Dr. Gutting.The captain with Milwaukee Police District 2 told WTMJ the owner, in this case, could face an animal cruelty charge.  1419

More than 150 medical experts, scientists, teachers, nurses and others have signed on to an open letter calling on U.S. leaders to “shut it down, start over, do it right,” asking for the country to be locked down again to control the spread of the coronavirus.The letter appears on the U.S. Public Interest Research Groups website and is addressed to “decision makers” and recognizes how the country shutdown in March to stop the spread. There were early signs of decreasing infection rates.“You didn’t use the time to set us up to defeat the virus. And then you started to reopen anyway, and too quickly. Right now we are on a path to lose more than 200,000 American lives by November 1. Yet, in many states people can drink in bars, get a haircut, eat inside a restaurant, get a tattoo, get a massage, and do myriad other normal, pleasant, but non-essential activities,” the letter reads.The letter goes on to talk about suggested standards before businesses and non-essential locations can open, including lower infection rate and the capacity to test and track cases.“If you don’t take these actions, the consequences will be measured in widespread suffering and death,” the letter says.This comes as the U.S. reaches above 4 million cases of coronavirus Thursday.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Covid-19 "will end up as a Top 10 leading cause of death" this year, statisticians predicted in an email to CNN.Heart disease and cancer are the two leading causes of death in the US, accounting for more than half of all US deaths each year, and the statisticians don't expect that to change.Editor's note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that U.S. PIRG was founded in 1984 when it was actually started in 1983. 1769
