BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- China's top economic planner said late Tuesday it would raise prices of gasoline and diesel both by 320 yuan (46.88 U.S. dollars) per tonne from April 14.This comes as the first such move in nearly five months since it raised gasoline and diesel prices both by 480 yuan per tonne in November 2009.The benchmark price of gasoline will be 7420 yuan per tonne and diesel 6680 yuan per tonne, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).The price rises translate into mark-ups of 0.24 yuan and 0.27 yuan per liter, the measurement used at service stations in China. Photo taken in the wee hours on April 14, 2010 shows the price board at a gas station in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner, said late Tuesday it would raise prices of gasoline and diesel both by 320 yuan (46.88 U.S. dollars) per tonne from April 14.China adopted a new oil pricing mechanism at the start of 2009 that allows the NDRC to adjust retail fuel prices when the international crude oil price changes more than four percent over 22 straight work days.International crude oil prices had kept rising since mid-February, and the 22-day moving average of global crude oil prices had gone above four percent, said Cao Changqing, head of the NDRC's pricing department. The decision was also made based on domestic economic conditions and oil consumers' ability to shoulder price rises, he said. After the price change, the government would continue to grant subsidies to farmers and the sectors of fishing, forestry, public transportation. Taxi drivers would also get a temporary subsidy.

WASHINGTON, March. 26 (Xinhua) -- A sound and stable China-U.S. economic and trade relationship is more important than ever and the trade between the two countries is a win-win game, said Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Zhong Shan in an article published on Friday's Wall Street Journal."China-U.S. trade and economic cooperation has generated huge and real benefits for the United States, while China has been gaining a lot from it as well," Zhong stated in the article. In 2009 China jumped to become the third biggest market for U.S. exports. American companies have cumulatively invested over 62.2 billion dollars in 58,000 projects in China and reaped bumper harvests. Their profits in China amounted to nearly 8 billion dollars in 2008 alone, according to the data released by the Chinese government.Zhong said that since the outbreak of the international financial crisis, China has been supporting the efforts of the American people to tackle the crisis."On the one hand, China has increased imports from the U.S.," said the Chinese official.

BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland will adopt new measures to facilitate cross-Strait travels, including opening more outlets to issue travel and entry permits to Taiwan travelers, a spokesman said here Wednesday.Travelers from Taiwan can get travel and entry permits upon arrival at three new air terminals in Tianjin, Ningbo and Jinan starting May 25, Yang Yi, the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman said at a press conference here. The move will increase the number of such terminals in the mainland to 23.To travel to the mainland, Taiwanese need a travel pass and an exit permit issued by the Taiwan authorities. They are also required to obtain an extra mainland travel pass and entry permit.According to Yang, public security departments in southern China's Guangdong Province have also been authorized to reissue from May 25 travel passes to those who have lost their documents or whose documents have expired.Currently, only seven provincial and municipal police departments are authorized to handle this issue. The travel pass, named "Taiwan Compatriot's Pass to the Mainland," is valid for five years and is similar to the identity card Taiwanese use in the mainland."As more and more Taiwan people come to the mainland for making investments, travels, work, study, plus living, the mainland will improve its entry and exit management system based on the needs of Taiwanese people," Yang said.He also confirmed the mainland's and Taiwan's air service associations would soon hold a meeting to discuss other matters, including adding more direct cross-Strait flights.
