NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- Jason Seaman, the hero teacher who stopped a school shooter at Noblesville West Middle School Friday, was honored at a baseball game Monday morning.The game was an Indiana Sectional Championship baseball game between Noblesville High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School. A moment of silence was held before Seaman arrived, then students began chanting Seaman's name, "Mis-ter Sea-man!"In an especially powerful moment, Seaman walked to some of his students who wanted to see him, with a fence separating them. The students said they were glad to see him, and he gave them some high-fives.Watch video of the interaction with the students in the player above. Police say Seaman, 29, tackled a student who started firing in his classroom Friday morning. He was shot three times during the incident, but released from the hospital Saturday. Noblesville Schools is selling T-shirts to raise money for Seaman and the other victim in the shooting, Ella Whistler. NEWMAN, Calif. (KGTV and AP) - Newman Police Chief Randy Richardson had tears in his eyes Thursday as he talked about the grief in his department over the loss of Corporal Ronil Singh. Singh, 33, was shot early Wednesday morning, a few minutes after radioing that he was pulling over a gray pickup truck that had no license plate in Newman, a town of about 10,000 people some 100 miles southeast of San Francisco. He died at a hospital. Singh was one of 12 Newman Police officers. “My department is hurting,” said Richardson at a morning news conference. “We’re not an agency; we’re a family.” Watch the news conference:The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department took over the investigation from Newman Police, releasing surveillance photos of a man seen at a convenience store just before Singh’s murder. Officials pleaded for information about the attacker's identity from the public, and the California Highway Patrol sent an alert to smartphones Wednesday asking drivers to keep an eye out for the pickup truck. A truck believed to have been the one stopped by Singh was later found in a garage in a mobile home park about 4 miles from the shooting, where law enforcement officers were serving a search warrant, The Modesto Bee reported. "He loved camping, loved hunting, loved fishing, loved his family." On his Facebook page, Ronil Singh posted pictures on Christmas Eve from a deep-sea fishing trip that produced a big haul of crabs and fish. His profile picture shows him smiling as he stands at a patrol car with his K9 partner, Sam — the same photograph of the officer released by the Sheriff's Department. “He will never see his son walk,” Chief Richardson said. Outgoing California Gov. Jerry Brown offered condolences to Singh's family and said flags at the Capitol would fly at half-staff in his honor. NEW YORK CITY — Two of New York City’s most well-known monuments donned a brand new accessory Monday: face masks.The enormous masks, which are three feet wide and two feet tall, cover the faces of the lion statues that guard the New York Public Library (NYPL). The giant masks are meant to remind New Yorkers of the executive order that requires people to wear them in public, according to the NYPL.The masks are also meant to remind library visitors that face coverings are required in order to pick up and drop off books.The statues — named Patience and Fortitude — celebrated their 109th birthday in May.“Like them, New Yorkers are strong and resilient and can weather any storm. We will get to the other side of this public health crisis together,” NYPL President Anthony W. Marx said. “But to do so, we must remain vigilant, we must have patience and fortitude, and we must follow what experts tell us, especially as we continue to reopen our cities."It is traditional for the NYPL to decorate the lions, as they do every year with wreaths every December. New details in the case of 13-year-old Patricia Alatorre who was allegedly raped and murdered last week by a man from Los Angeles who she communicated with on social media. The details in those court documents are very graphic, much of which wouldn't be appropriate to release.It was in the neighborhood near Wible Rd and Hosking Ave where police say 13-year-old Patricia Alatorre was kidnapped near her home last week. Documents revealed a lot of information about how she communicated with her suspected 24-year-old killer, the kind of communication they had prior to her death, and the tragic way she lost her life."That's sad. That's unacceptable. We don't want anybody killed, but it's incredibly sad when people kill children," said Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer.Zimmer shared her thoughts after court documents were released Wednesday morning detailing the tragic events leading up to Alatorre's death. Officials said she was killed in South Bakersfield shortly after midnight on July 2nd after 24-year-old Armando Cruz from Inglewood communicated with her on social media over the course of a week. They would send explicit photos to each other, according to documents.Things would take a turn for the worst, according to Bakersfield Police Sgt. Robert Pair."As you can imagine this is a particularly sensitive case. It's involving details that is especially graphic."Documents state Cruz convinced Alatorre to meet with him to engage in explicit acts on two occasions despite knowing she was only 13. He drove from Los Angeles to Bakersfield to meet her. On the second encounter, Cruz drove her around the block as she screamed, telling him she didn't want to go with him.It was about this time documents state she was raped. She tried to get up and physically struggled with Cruz and that's when he allegedly strangled her and tied her up with duct tape. He then took her body with him but the details following are too graphic to release.On Sunday night Cruz was arrested by BPD in Los Angeles County and brought back to Bakersfield. On Tuesday he was charged with 12 felony counts."The first count is first-degree murder and in connection with first-degree murder, I charged four special circumstances which carry the penalty of life without the possibility of parole, in prison, or the death penalty," explained Zimmer.Cruz has pleaded not guilty to that first-degree murder charge and all other felony charges, including kidnapping, and aggravated sexual assault. He is due back in court on July 30th. 2538
