NEW YORK, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill to recognise Nanjing City of China as a "Model for International Cooperation" in order to award the city's active involvement in cooperation with the United States in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, and this was the first Chinese city to win such an award, Li Jiansheng, executive chairman of the U.S.-China Partnership Committee, told Xinhua on Thursday.The House passed the bill, tabled by Representative John Tierney of Massachusetts, on Tuesday night, Li said, adding that this will pave the way for further cooperation between China and the United States in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, which are very conducive to build a stronger China in the future."I rise today to speak about a model for international cooperation that is said to hold promise and future opportunities for the United States," Tierney said when he was taking the floor at the House. "The City of Nanjing is working to improve the quality of life of its residents with a global initiative that has potential to create a great opportunity for some in the United States."For over a decade, Nanjing "has reached beyond the borders of the People's Republic of China to create new strategies in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, increasing the level of understanding between our two nations and stimulating U.S.- China idea exchange," he said."It is expected that this international cooperative initiative will inure to the benefit of the residents of Nanjing as well to the residents of the United States, including businesses, residents and educational institutions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts," he said.Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province in East China, has forged close ties of cooperation and partnership with Boston and Massachusetts in 2008. "Currently the US and Chinese government have a platform called Strategic and Economic Dialogue. BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Flights have resumed at Beijing Capital International Airport after a thunder storm hit the city at 8 p.m. Sunday causing disruptions, the airport announced on its website.The storm had delayed a total of 170 out-bound flights and canceled 25 fights as of 9 p.m., according to the announcement.The airport suspended flights at 7:40 p.m. Sunday due to the storm, which stopped at about 9:30 p.m..The National Meteorological Center forecast heavy rain for central Hunan, eastern Jiangxi, Zhejiang, and Fujian provinces as the country begins Monday its three-day national holiday.Thunder storms are forecast for Inner Mongolia, the northeast, and the north during the next three days.

BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Thursday urged members and officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to emulate the achievements of an official who died on duty after six years of dedicated work as a village Party secretary.Xi made the statement in Beijing while meeting with attendants to a ceremony to mark the release of a movie about the Party secretary's life in the village, and that of a book based on his diaries.The official, Shen Hao, had been a provincial government official in Anhui in central China, but was later assigned as a village Party secretary in 2004.Shen's devotion to his job brought about significant changes in the village and twice his term was extended at the request of the people in the village, though the work eventually cost him his life. He fell ill through constant overwork and died on November 6, 2009.Xi hailed Shen as a role model for CPC members and officials and urged them to maintain close ties with the people.
