(KGTV) - There is a hit-and-run crash every minute in the United States, according to a new report from the American Automobile Association.And in 2016, a record 2,049 people died in one of them - mainly bicyclists and pedestrians. The figure is a 60 percent increase since 2009, according to AAA."Whether you're a bicyclist or a pedestrian, and a vehicle comes out of nowhere and you're involved in an incident with it, and then for the driver to take off. It's not only frustrating, it's very sad that people will do this," said Doug Shupe, a spokesman for the AAA. RELATED: California has the most aggressive drivers, study saysThe Auto Club is once again calling for drivers to be alert on the road - especially with distractions and more people out during the summer months.Hit-and-runs range from fender benders in a parking lot to fatal crashes. The penalties for not stopping are stiff. In California, drivers who don't pull over to report property damage face up to six months in jail and a one thousand dollar fine. And it goes up from there. Shupe warned that it's hard to get away these days with so many smartphones and surveillance cameras around. He added that alcohol often plays a factor in the decision to drive away.The AAA recommends drivers be aware, be cautious, be patient, and be vigilant while on the road. 1369

Apparently, that state of mind won't help Californians enjoy the best quality of life in the U.S.Despite our pristine beaches, famous cities, and awesome nickname (The Golden State really is a great one), Californians reportedly enjoy one of the lowest qualities of life, according to U.S. News and World Report's annual "Best States" rankings.The study ranks states on a variety of metrics, including quality of life, opportunities for residents, education, healthcare, economy, infrastructure, crime and corrections, and fiscal stability.RELATED: AAA's top rated restaurants, hotels in San Diego CountyOk, it's starting to make a little sense. Metrics are weighted based on what more than 30,000 participants indicated as the most important aspects of livelihood. Healthcare and education were the heaviest scores, followed by economy, opportunity, and infrastructure.Overall, the Golden State came in at 32, though scored last in quality of life and near last in opportunity and fiscal stability."In addition to a healthy environment, a person's quality of life is largely a result of their interactions with those around them," U.S. News wrote. The state ranked 44 for natural environment and 47 for social environment.Natural environment measured drinking water quality, pollution and industrial toxins, and air quality. (KGTV) - San Diego Police and Crime Stoppers requested the public’s help Thursday to find a man suspected of robbing an adult store in the Midway area. The man walked into the Adult Depot about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 and pulled out a handgun, police said. He pointed the gun at the clerk’s head and demanded cash, then took money from the register. Police said the man fired one shot at the computer monitor above the cash register before running away. Investigators said the man was last seen walking north on Pacific Highway. The man is described as Hispanic and 5’4” to 5’6” tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black bandana, black gloves, gray pants, and black and white tennis shoes.
