BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China and Pakistan pledged to strengthen defense ties Thursday at a meeting between Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie and visiting Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Parvez Kayani."Cooperation between the Chinese and Pakistani armed forces is exemplary and has been fruitful," Liang, also a state councilor, said during the meeting at Diaoyutai Guest House Thursday morning.Liang said the two sides should make continuous efforts to conduct their cooperation programs well.He said China would join hands with Pakistan to bring military relations to a new high.Kayani said Pakistan values its defense and security cooperation with China, noting that the two countries have cooperated fruitfully in national defense industries in recent years.He added Pakistan would further strengthen exchange and cooperation with China.Kayani also met with Chinese State Councilor and Minister for Public Security Meng Jianzhu, top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo, and Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission Guo Boxiong later Thursday.During the meeting with Meng Jianzhu, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in law enforcement and security.Hailing results achieved in the two fields, Meng pointed out Pakistan's active efforts in cooperating with China, including in anti-terrorism. He said he believed that the China-Pakistan cooperation in law enforcement and security would continue to develop with the joint efforts from both sides.Kayani echoed Meng saying the Pakistani government and its armed forces attached much importance to the strategic cooperation with China, and the government would further enhance it.During a meeting with Guo Boxiong, the senior officer of the People's Liberation Army of China stressed the importance of strategic communication between China and Pakistan.Guo said the all-weather friendship between the two countries has endured major international challenges. BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), the last of the country's largest four banks to go public, announced Wednesday that it has set its A-share initial public offering (IPO) price at 2.68 yuan per share, hitting the high end of its IPO price range.The pricing of the shares means the bank could raise up to 10.12 billion U.S. dollars via the Shanghai portion of the IPO, as a greenshoe option has been exercised to expand the deal by 15 percent to 25.57 billion shares, ABC said in a statement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.ABC plans a dual listing in Shanghai and Hong Kong in mid-July to replenish its capital base after a lending spree last year.It has yet to set the final IPO price for its Hong Kong portion, where it plans to sell 25.41 billion shares, excluding an over-allotment option.ABC set the price range for the Hong Kong portion at 2.88 to 3.48 HK dollars in late June.
BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- A senior official with the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday reaffirmed the Party's and government's unalterable will to clear pornography from the Internet.Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said at a meeting held in Beijing that the government should continue its efforts to crack down on Internet websites that provide pornographic content or links to lewd information.China has established a special working group for coordinating a nationwide campaign to sweep out pornography and other illegal online publications.Officials with government agencies, including the police force and other law enforcement powers in attendance at the meeting, were asked to not only examine websites but also trace the sources of onlinepornography and break the profit chain from producing online pornography and lewd information.Operators of Internet websites, servers, telecom and even advertising agents will be under scrutiny for any pornography or lewd information spread by their services, according to a statement released at the meeting.In other matters discussed at the meeting, the government said it would continue to promote and establish a real name registration system for Internet users and online service operators, and improve its management over Internet search engines as well as information security regulations.
