SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is now able to test for novel coronavirus without needing to send samples to the CDC, the Health and Human Services Agency announced Thursday. The County Public Health Lab can now run up to 40 tests at once. The lab is one of dozens certified by the CDC throughout the U.S. “This is great news for San Diego County and will help with our ongoing efforts to contain COVID-19,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “Being able to test locally means that when we have patients under investigation, we can more rapidly remove unneeded restrictions from those without infection. Results for potential cases of COVID-19 will now be available within 24 to 48 hours, health officials say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego has unveiled its first new trolley station in over a decade as city leaders gathered to celebrate Friday.The Courthouse Station is located at the south side of C Street between State and Union streets.The station will replace the American Plaza station as the new endpoint to Metropolitan Transit System’s Orange Line.The first new station since 2005 began to serve passengers Sunday. Aside from being located outside the city’s new 22-story courthouse, the station is located within close access to 44,500 jobs.Construction of the new station began in August. 598

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego business legend Frank Fornaca died Wednesday at the age of 94.Fornaca's father started a family bakery in San Diego in 1912. More than 50 years later, the Fornacas went into the car business.The family still runs Frank Toyota, Subaru, and Hyundai. The dealerships are known for their catchy phrase, "Is that you, Frank?"Fornaca suffered from congestive heart failure. He was still able to attend his granddaughter's wedding just over a week ago.  493

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police Homicide investigators and Crime Stoppers asked for the public’s help Thursday to solve the mystery of an unidentified boy whose skeletal remains were found on a Rancho Bernardo hiking trail in 2004.Two hikers found the 2 to 4-year-old boy, called “Baby Doe” by police.  Forensic testing showed the boy was born between 1999 and 2001, and had features “consistent with being mostly Caucasian”, according to investigators. The boy also had light to medium brown hair.Police said isotopic testing indicates the boy was born on the mainland United States. His mother likely lived in the southeastern part of the country for part of her pregnancy and the first year of the boy’s life before they moved west, investigators said.Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Vector Control officials reported new signs Friday of the potentially dangerous disease tularemia on a trail in Sorrento Valley.Several batches of ticks trapped along Lopez Canyon Trail tested positive for the disease, also known as rabbit fever.The first group of ticks with the disease appeared last week, officials said.County officials posted warning signs for hikers. Vector Control will also expand tick trapping in the area.The best way for people to protect themselves from tick bites include insect repellent for humans and pets, and long-sleeved shirts and pants.Tularemia can be treated with antibiotics but it can be fatal. 679
