MACOMB COUNTY, Michigan — Ever since WXYZ television station did a segment about a mother who says she’s an adoption worker, but she isn’t licensed by the state of Michigan, families have been calling, emailing and reaching out on social media to share their heartbreaking stories. Now we've obtained new documents that show the same baby was promised to more than one family; both families paid thousands of dollars for the alleged adoption "services."One of those families is the Markley family. Stacey Markley says she’s having a really tough week: the baby boy that her family was supposed to adopt was allegedly due on Sunday. But now she doesn’t even know if that baby ever existed, and she wants some answers.Tara Lynn Lee promotes herself online as an adoption worker. But the 37-year-old from New Haven, Mich. is not a licensed adoption worker in Michigan and state officials tell us the companies and nonprofits she’s associated with are not licensed either.Lee’s home was raided by the FBI in November.Several sources close to the investigation say Lee is under scrutiny for allegedly promising the same baby to more than one potential adoptive family at a time.“We were so prepared for this baby, everybody was excited for us. And then just to turn around and have nothing, to this day it’s still hard for me,” said Markley from her home in Ohio.Markley says she and her husband hired Lee to help them adopt a baby boy. She says based on the contract they signed, they were paying Lee to care for the birth mother who had “matched” with them. Now Markley isn’t sure if there ever was an actual birth mom or a baby.“It’s heartbreaking because I’m surrounded by all this baby stuff and it doesn’t have an owner,” Markley said.Markley says Lee’s stories about the birth mother never added up.“It was constant, for the two months that we were matched with her, it was – ‘oh, we didn’t meet up, she canceled, I canceled – I had to go deliver a baby.’ So it’s like we never got word of how anything was going,” Markley said.Markley says Lee had them sign a contract, and they handed over ,000 when they “matched” with the birth mother. But when they asked for additional proof of pregnancy, Markley says, they didn’t get it.“I knew in my heart that day that that was going to be the end of it — we weren’t going to be going forward with this, and we weren’t going to be matched anymore. I called my mom crying that day,” she said.She says after a lot of fighting they eventually got about ,000 back. Lee’s paperwork shows she kept 24.75 for expenses.Lee’s contract from July states that “TL Pregnancy Services is a licensed counseling and adoption education center," but state licensing officials confirm Lee is not a licensed counselor.After Markley spoke to WXYZ, we discovered what appears to be a second contract for another couple in a different state. The contracts are dated two weeks apart:  both promising a baby born 12/9/18 from what appears to be the same birth mother named “Tracy.”Meanwhile, Lee’s attorney says she has been cooperating with the FBI probe.“I do know that the government is investigating, and that’s their job, and they could do their due process and do their due diligence, but as it stands today we have heard nothing. To the extent that they’ve asked us for information, she’s been in full compliance,” said Sanford Schulman.Schulman also told WXYZ in an email that, “Always Hope has never claimed to be a licensed agency and this is explicitly noted in every contract. Always Hope provides support for expectant mothers who choose adoption. Every stage was overseen by qualified attorneys who could be consulted throughout the process.”But when WXYZ pointed out that the contract was with TL Pregnancy Services that claimed to be licensed, Schulman seemed unaware of the claims Lee made in her contract. There is no record of a company called TL Pregnancy Services with the state of Michigan.As we reported last week, state records show, prior to 2016, Lee ran something called Always Hope Pregnancy Center LLC. Lee is also connected to the Always Hope Pregnancy and Education Center Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida.Lee is listed as a director on a nonprofit called Always Hope Adoption and Family Services, Inc. in Sterling Heights, Michigan. State officials tell us that organization and Lee are both now under investigation by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and neither is licensed to handle adoptions.The FBI investigation is still underway into Lee. (AP) — Relief and heartache await those starting to return home to a Southern California wildfire zone.Eager to know the status of his house, 69-year-old Roger Kelly defied evacuation orders Sunday and hiked back into Seminole Springs, his lakeside mobile home community in the Santa Monica Mountains north of Malibu.His got the thrill of finding his house intact. But some a half-block away were laid to waste, as were dozens more, and virtually everything on the landscape around the community had been turned to ash."I just started weeping," Kelly said. "I just broke down. Your first view of it, man it just gets you."The community where Kelly and his wife have lived for 28 years and raised two children was among the hardest hit by the so-called Woolsey fire that broke out Thursday, destroying at least 177 homes and leaving two people dead.Despite strong Santa Ana winds that returned Sunday, no additional structures were believed to have been lost, meaning many would return in the coming week to find their home as Kelly did, authorities said.Santa Ana winds, produced by surface high pressure over the Great Basin squeezing air down through canyons and passes in Southern California's mountain ranges, are common in autumn and have a long history of fanning destructive wildfires in the region.Huge plumes of smoke still rose in the fire area, which stretches miles from the northwest corner of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley to the Malibu coast.Airplanes and helicopters swooped low over hills and canyons to drop loads of fire retardant and water.A one-day lull in the dry, northeasterly winds ended at midmorning and authorities warned that the gusts would continue through Tuesday.The lull allowed firefighters to gain 10 percent control of the Woolsey fire, which has burned more than 130 square miles (335 square kilometers) in western Los Angeles County and southeastern Ventura County since Thursday.Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby stressed there were numerous hotspots and plenty of fuel that had not yet burned, but at sunset he said there had been huge successes despite "a very challenging day."The count of destroyed homes was expected to increase when an update is reported Monday. Osby noted that a November 1993 wildfire in Malibu destroyed more than 270 homes and said he would not be surprised if the total from the current fire would be higher.The fire's cause remained under investigation but Southern California Edison reported to the California Public Utilities Commission that there was an outage on an electrical circuit near where it started as Santa Ana winds blew through the region.SoCal Edison said the report was submitted out of an abundance of caution although there was no indication from fire officials that its equipment may have been involved. The report said the fire was reported around 2:24 p.m. Thursday, two minutes after the outage.Venture County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen hadn't heard about the Edison report. "It wouldn't surprise me" if it turns out that winds caused equipment failure that sparked a fire, he said.The two dead were severely burned, their bodies discovered in a car on a long residential driveway on a stretch of Mulholland Highway in Malibu, where most of the surrounding structures had burned. Authorities said investigators believed the driver became disoriented and the car was overcome by fire.The deaths came as authorities in Northern California announced the death toll from a massive wildfire there has reached 29 people, matching the deadliest fire in state history.Progress was made on the lines of smaller fire to the west in Ventura County, which was 70 percent contained at about 7 square miles (18 square kilometers), and evacuations were greatly reduced. But thousands remained under evacuation orders due to the Woolsey fire.Three firefighters suffered minor injuries, Osby said.Also injured was a well-known member of the Malibu City Council. Councilman Jefferson "Zuma Jay" Wagner was injured while trying to save his home, which burned down, Councilman Skylar Peak told reporters Sunday.Peak said Wagner was hospitalized but was expected to recover. The university said it was closing Malibu campus and its Calabasas campus to the north until Nov. 26 but classes would be remotely administered online and through email.But fire officials say fire behavior has changed statewide after years of drought and record summer heat that have left vegetation extremely crisp and dry. MCAS MIRAMAR (KGTV) -- Some Grand Princess passengers quarantined at MCAS Miramar say, what the President said in his address Friday about the quality care on base, is not a reality. According to the San Diego County Public Health department, two female Grand Princess passengers in their 70's have tested positive for the Coronavirus. A quarantined passenger at Miramar told 10News that not only has she not been tested, but the base also seems to be understaffed and chaotic. It was supposed to be a lovely two-week vacation around the Hawaiian Islands. "Another day in paradise… in prison," Karen Lira said.By prison, Lira means, MCAS Miramar. She and her husband Jeff have been there since late Thursday, after eight days of self-quarantine on the Grand Princess cruise ship, floating off the coast of San Francisco. "It was quite the waiting game, which just ramped up everybody's stress," Lira said.She said that stress increased tenfold after the Government diverted their vacation to San Diego. "After we left a ship at five pm, we heard it into a bus, which was a crazy situation and then crammed into a plane. And once we got onto the airport, we were told that there was no pilot for the plane," Lira said. Lira said she was baffled to see President Donald Trump on Friday, address the public on how smooth the transition from the cruise ship to Miramar played out. "We had tremendous success in Oakland, where Vice president Pence did a fantastic job," the President said."It was not smooth. It wasn't a beautiful operation," Lira responded. When they finally got to their room on base around 2 a.m. Friday, they were given a welcome note. It explained that food would be delivered to their rooms three times a day. They were advised to always wear a mask, when they stepped out of their rooms. They were also told to keep a six-foot distance from each other at all times."People found out there was food in another building, and people were going a little crazy," Lira said. "Social distancing, wear masks, stay six feet apart from each other. That went out the window immediately when we got off the ship."Lira said she wants the public to know the truth about their situation. So far, they have not been tested. They haven't even got their temperature taken since arriving in Miramar. She is hoping the situation gets better, so she can get back to Oregon, virus-free."If we are not tested any day soon, when is the clock going to start ticking? We are going to be let out of here?" Lira asked. So far, Lira and her husband are feeling healthy. At this point, they want to get tested, so that a negative result can finally get them home to Oregon. She said she is happy to continue the self-quarantine at home if necessary. 2747

MIAMI, Fla. – The extremely active 2020 Atlantic hurricane season came to an end Monday and coastal communities are breathing a sigh of relief.However, while the hurricane season officially concludes on Nov. 30, that doesn’t necessarily mean the United States is out of the woods. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says tropical storms may continue to develop past that day.Even without more storms, this season has been historic. We saw a record-breaking 30 named storms and 12 landfalling storms in the continental U.S., according to the NOAA. Before this year, the 2005 season held the record for the most named storms, with 28.Of this season’s 30 named storms, 13 of them became hurricanes, meaning winds were 74 mph or greater. Six of those were considered major hurricanes, with winds reaching at least 111 mph: Laura, Teddy, Delta, Epsilon, Eta, and Iota.Because the 2020 season got off to an early and rapid pace, officials quickly exhausted the 21-name Atlantic list when Wilfred formed in September.So, for only the second time in history, the Greek alphabet was used for the remainder of the season, extending through the ninth name in the list, Iota.“The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season ramped up quickly and broke records across the board,” said Neil Jacobs, Ph.D, acting NOAA administrator. “Our investments in research, forecast models, and computer technology allowed forecasters at the National Weather Service, and its National Hurricane Center, to issue forecasts with increasing accuracy, resulting in the advanced lead time needed to ensure that decision makers and communities were ready and responsive.”NOAA says this was the fifth consecutive year with an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season, with 18 above-normal seasons out of the past 26.Scientists attribute the increase in activity to the warm phase of the Atlantic Multi-Decadal Oscillation (AMO), which NOAA says began in 1995 and has favored more, stronger and longer-lasting storms. These kinds of eras have historically lasted about 25 to 40 years.“As we correctly predicted, an interrelated set of atmospheric and oceanic conditions linked to the warm AMO were again present this year. These included warmer-than-average Atlantic sea surface temperatures and a stronger west African monsoon, along with much weaker vertical wind shear and wind patterns coming off of Africa that were more favorable for storm development. These conditions, combined with La Nina, helped make this record-breaking, extremely active hurricane season possible,” said Gerry Bell, Ph.D, lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.Looking forward, the 2021 hurricane season will officially begin on June 1 and NOAA will issue its initial seasonal outlook in May. 2787

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A billboard calling for justice in the Breonna Taylor case was vandalized with red paint in Louisville..The public discovered the vandalism to the sign near the city’s Irish Hill neighborhood Tuesday morning, WLKY and WAVE report.However, by Tuesday afternoon, both TV stations say the paint had either been removed from the billboard or it had been replaced.The billboard is one of several erected in the Kentucky city by Oprah Winfrey and her magazine, which featured Taylor on its September issue. She was the first person other than Oprah herself to grace the cover.The signs feature a photo of the 26-year-old woman who was shot and killed by police in her home in March. They also have a call to action – “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged” – and encourage people to visit the website for Until Freedom, a social justice organization created to address systemic and racial injustice.Taylor died on March 13 after three Louisville police officers executing a search warrant used a battering ram to enter her home. The emergency room technician and her boyfriend were in bed. After a brief exchange, Taylor’s boyfriend reportedly fired his gun and then police fired shots, striking Taylor at least eight times. She died in the apartment hallway.Since Taylor’s death, protests have been held across the country, demanding that the officers involved be charged in her killing. Many celebrities other than Oprah have also used their platforms to call for action.For now, the shooting is under investigation by the FBI and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
