RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Ramona couple walking their yellow Labrador puppy say they were attacked by two pit bulls Tuesday night, suffering serious injuries.Michael Dougherty was walking with his wife, Dee, in the Kmart parking lot in the 1800 block of Main Street training their puppy, Rueger. Dougherty said it's easier in the parking lot, as there is more light, compared to their rural neighborhood.As they walked toward the Taco Shop, around 7:15 p.m., Dougherty said from the corner of his eye, he saw two pit bulls charging.RELATED: Dog and owner mauled by pit bull during walk in OceansideThey attacked Rueger and his wife, who went down trying to rescue the dog. Dougherty is recovering from a back injury and walks with a cane. He used it as a weapon."I just started beating the dog, beating the dog, until it [the cane] snapped. This fell down alongside the dog and my wife and she grabbed this and was jamming it into the dog's mouth. When this broke I started punching the dog in the head."Eventually they were able to separate all three dogs. No one escaped uninjured. Dougherty described his wife's wounds, "the top fang went in," gesturing at his left cheek, "and the bottom fang went under her chin like this."RELATED: Pit bull comes to defense of injured owner in apartment, chases away attackers"Both arms are bitten up quite a bit, I couldn't even count them there were so many," he continued, saying her hand bore the worst injury. "Her thumb was bitten three quarters of the way around," saying the skin had been pushed up, away from her hand. He was plain vicious."Animal Control confirmed they have a dog in quarantine, and will have the couple identify Friday whether it's the same dog who attacked them.Dougherty has a GoFundMe set up to help with his wife's expenses. President Donald Trump was asked on Wednesday if he would commit to leaving office peacefully in January if he loses to Joe Biden in November.Trump’s response:“We're going to have to see what happens, you know I have been complaining very strongly about the ballots. And the ballots are a disaster,” Trump said.When pressed to elaborate, Trump added, "We want to get rid of the ballots, we'll have a very peaceful -- there won't be a transfer, frankly, there will be a continuation."Last week, Joe Biden said during a CNN town hall that he would accept the outcome once the full results are counted.“I mean, he never think -- can anybody any of you or history majors out there think of any president who said early on, ‘I'm not sure I'm going to accept the results of the election. There were 1,281 ballots postmarked the day before Election Day, but election officials received them too late to be counted.Yesterday, the FBI issued a warning that cybercriminals and foreign governments were working to sow distrust in the upcoming election process.According to the FBI, “Foreign actors and cybercriminals could create new websites, change existing websites, and create or share corresponding social media content to spread false information in an attempt to discredit the electoral process and undermine confidence in U.S. democratic institutions.”Beyond attempts to influence the vote, the FBI says these actors are attempting to sow distrust in the electoral system. The FBI in particular warns that cybercriminals could take advantage of the likelihood several states will need additional time to count ballots due to increased mail-in voting and social distancing protocols. While a delay in results does not indicate any wrongdoing, the FBI warns that foreign actors could attempt to spread misinformation to cause distrust in the system while votes are being tallied. 3187

President-elect Joe Biden named former General Lloyd J. Austin as his nominee for secretary of defense on Wednesday.If confirmed, Austin would become the first Black person to lead the Pentagon.At a press conference in Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday, Biden introduced Austin as a man who is "breaking down barriers and blazing a trail," adding that he is "going to do it again" if confirmed.Biden called for Austin to be confirmed "swiftly," adding that the country "needs his expertise.""It will be my sincere honor and privilege to return to the department and to lead our great service members and civilians in accomplishing the mission of ensuring our nation's security," Austin said Wednesday.He also added that he would give Biden clear and "unvarnished council" when it comes to military matters.Austin also said that he had benefitted greatly from leadership above him throughout his career, citing the influence of former Sec. of State Colin Powell, among others.In addition to needing Senate confirmation, Austin will also need a waiver, as there is seven-year waiting period after leaving the military in order to become defense secretary. It can come off as disingenuous.Then, think about how you would want to be approached in a time of crisis. Some people may want space, while others do want to talk.Recognize that there may be cultural differences and be open about it.“So, it's really all about, I'm owning our experience, our life experiences are different. I'm owning my race. I'm acknowledging your race. I'm valuing both as equally valid and I'm saying to you in plain language, ‘I want to be a support to you,’” said Breland-Noble, psychologist and founder of the AAKOMA Project.That's a key part. You're trying to show support for them. Don't make it about you or your own validation.You can get that message across with what Breland-Noble calls "I statements.”“I want to communicate to you. I want to tell you that I care about you deeply, that I value you.
