SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An 86-year-old woman, with underlying health conditions and who had been vaccinated, is the latest flu death in San Diego. The San Diego woman died on Dec. 1 from influenza A and had been vaccinated this season, the County Health and Human Agency said. Officials did not specify what underlying conditions the woman had suffered. This flu season, seven San Diegans have died from the flu. At this time last year, San Diego reported five deaths from the flu.RELATED: Health officials stress getting vaccinated for the flu ASAP“Influenza can be deadly, especially for people with underlying medical conditions and compromised immune systems,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. “Vaccination is the best protection against influenza. The vaccine is safe and effective.”County health officials say residents should still receive a flu vaccine.Last week, 294 flu cases were reported in the region, compared to 202 the previous week. Flu cases are up overall this season, with 1,223 cases reported compared to 650 at this time last year.A list of locations offering flu shots can be found at the county's immunization website or by calling 211 for the county's health hotline.RELATED: Six people arrested during CBP protest over flu services for detaineesCounty health officials also remind locals to help prevent catching the flu by washing their hands thoroughly, using hand sanitizers, stay away from others who may be sick, cleaning commonly touched surfaces, and to avoid touching their face.People with chronic medical conditions, pregnant women, people over 65, and people who live with or care for others who are higher risk are also encouraged to get a flu shot as they face a higher risk of complications from influenza. 1763

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An autopsy performed on the teenager known as McSkillet is providing details about his mental state before he crashed his McLaren on Interstate 805 in San Diego, killing a mother and daughter.Trevor Heitmann, 18, died on August 23 when he drove the wrong way on the freeway in University City at 100 miles an hour. Heitmann’s sports car crashed into an SUV, killing Aileen Pizarro, 43, and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana. The California Highway Patrol reported that video of the impact shows Heitmann did not attempt to swerve before hitting the SUV.The San Diego County Medical Examiner said Heitmann suffered 11 types of blunt force injuries in the crash. Toxicology tests did not detect any alcohol or common drugs, doctors said. Heitmann's death was ruled accidental by officials. (Official report here.)RELATED: Popular YouTuber identified in wrong-way crash that killed mother and daughterHeitmann had no medical or surgical history, was not known to use tobacco, illegal drugs, or alcohol, and had no history of depression or diagnosis of mental illness, medical examiners reported. He did not leave behind a suicide note.Five days before the crash, Heitmann’s behavior changed, his parents said to the Medical Examiner’s Office. He told his parents he thought he was having a “meltdown”. His behavior suggested mania, officials reported. The CHP said Heitmann's vehicle was linked to an incident at Ashley Falls Elementary School in Carmel Valley before the crash, in which several students said the driver of a sports car drove through a fence. Del Mar Union School District said the driver got out of the car and broke a window, though no classes were in session.RELATED: Neighbor: Police called to YouTuber's home on day of deadly crashHeitmann told his mother he had driven his McLaren 150 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone going the wrong direction, according to the autopsy report. Heitmann’s father asked him what he thought would happen if police caught him and Heitmann said that “neither the police nor their bullets could hurt him,” the report indicated. The day of the crash, Heitmann's parents contacted San Diego Police to request a psychiatric evaluation but were told it could not be performed because Heitmann had not broken any laws, medical examiners reported.Heitmann also cried and said he was having a "breakdown" the morning of the crash before sleeping for four hours. When he woke up, he was behaving irrationally, his parents told the Medical Examiner’s Office.RELATED: Son remembers mother, sister killed in I-805 crashHeitmann’s McLaren was blocked by his father’s vehicle, which he rammed to get out of the driveway and leave their Carmel Valley home. Heitmann’s father later contacted the California Highway Patrol to find his son before learning of the crash.Heitmann was known as McSkillet in the video game community and had a successful YouTube channel. One of the videos on McSkillet's page shows off a black McLaren and talks about how his earnings as a YouTube and Counter-Strike "Steam" content producer helped pay for the luxury sports car.Heitmann's popularity surrounded his trading and collection of rare video game content, called "skins," which are pieces of content for Counter-Strike players. He was banned earlier this year from trading skins with other players by the video game's developer, Valve. The "trade ban" cut him off from his collection, believed to be valued at anywhere from 0,000 to 0,000 at the time, and created an issue with his ability to continue producing sponsored videos.RELATED: How YouTuber in I-805 crash made fortune in gaming videosHeitmann’s parents issued a statement which read in part, “We express our deepest condolences to the Pizarro family and anyone impacted by this incident.”Aileen Pizarro, a therapist, left behind two sons to mourn their mother and little sister."Both of them were the most caring...people full of life, you've ever met in the world," Dominic Pizarro said. A GoFundMe account for the Pizarro family raised more than ,000, well above its ,000 goal. 4189

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A second Scripps Medical Response Team has deployed to Northern California, tasked with helping fire victims. The first team returned Friday after a nine-day mission.“Being there in these shelters with people that have lost totally everything, but they're thankful for their lives, it just sets a whole new meaning for us for Thanksgiving," said Steve Miller, a Registered Nurse and part of the response team.Miller says because fire victims were forced to evacuate so quickly many did not have their medications or ID's to pick up prescriptions. He says the smoke also made respiratory problems worse. The days are long for the medical team, 12 hours at the shelter providing medical care along with prep and a daily debrief. “You’re in austere conditions; you’re living in tents, it’s cold, it’s wet, you do not have electricity, so you have to be able to work in that environment. You don't have all the medical tools you have in the hospital.”The second four-person team will continue to help fire evacuees over the next week. 1056

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A shark advisory is being issued Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing a five-foot-long shark near Black's Beach. According to Mónica Mu?oz with San Diego Fire-Rescue, the advisory is in place from the Mushroom House north to Bathtub Rock, also known as Flat Rock. “Some witnesses reported seeing a shark of about five feet in length which does not reach the threshold of a significant threat. However, the number of witnesses and the feeding behavior observed influenced the lifeguards’ decision to issue the advisory,” Mu?oz said. Just after 12:30 p.m., a group of 25 surfers got out of the water at Black's Beach after reportedly seeing a shark eating a sea lion. Another group of people reported similar information to a lifeguard. In the same area, Mu?oz says lifeguards witnessed a large sea lion eating a fish. The department says there were either two separate sightings in the area, or witnesses all saw a sea lion feeding on a fish, but mistook it for a shark. “We are acting out of an abundance of caution,” Mu?oz added. Lifeguards are conducting active patrols in the area to let people know what witnesses saw. Mu?oz says lifeguards are advising against water activity; however, the water is not closed to people who choose to enter. Signs will also be posted in the area. 1316
