Koontz said she flew to San Diego the morning after the accident and visited her son at UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest.“It was really comforting because there was like eight Marines there in uniform. They stood there all night. They never leave him alone,” she said.Samuel Koontz posted on Facebook he has second and third-degree burns to his face but won’t have permanent scars.He wrote the vehicle, also called a Track, “Exploded and the track caught fire, me and my squad exited out multiple ways some being injured more than others. Me and some of my squad mates got out and went back to pull the rest of our brothers out that couldn’t do it for themselves for various reasons.”He also asks people to pray for the Marines still hospitalized and some badly injured.“it’s just kind of a traumatic thing I think when you go through something like that,” J.R. Koontz said. “I believe they put all the guys that were hurt in the accident in the wounded warrior battalion so that gives them time to go over what happened."The Marine Corps is not paying the flights and hotel stays for the families visiting the injured Marines. Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer was suspended for three games without pay in the wake of an investigation into exactly what he knew about spousal abuse allegations leveled against former assistant coach Zach Smith, the university announced Wednesday night.Athletic Director Gene Smith was suspended without pay from August 31 to September 16, according to a summary of the investigative findings and university actions."Although neither Urban Meyer, nor Gene Smith condoned or covered up the alleged domestic abuse by Zach Smith, they failed to take sufficient management action relation to Zach Smith's misconduct and retained an assistant coach who was not performing as an appropriate role model for OSU student-athletes," the summary said.The announcement followed a 10-hour meeting held by the Ohio State University Board of Trustees discussing the job status of the famed football coach and three-time national championship winner.Ohio State put Meyer on paid leave August 1, saying it wanted to investigate exactly what he knew about the allegations leveled against former assistant coach Zach Smith.Ohio State fired Smith on July 23, three days after he was served with a civil protection order on behalf of his ex-wife, Courtney Smith. She has accused her former husband of abuse, including domestic violence in 2009 and 2015.The day after Smith's firing, Meyer told reporters that he knew about the 2009 allegation, but didn't know about the 2015 allegation.Then Courtney Smith told Stadium, a sports network, that she told Shelley Meyer about the alleged 2015 incident that year -- leading to speculation about whether the coach did know.Ohio State, already embroiled in separate scandals involving alleged sex abuse by a now-deceased athletics doctor and a diving coach, put Meyer on leave and formed a group led by a former Securities and Exchange Commission chairwoman to conduct an investigation.Meyer later said that he had been inadequately prepared to discuss the issue in late July, and that he had "followed reporting protocols and procedures ... regarding the Zach Smith incident in 2015."Zach Smith told ESPN on August 3 that he indeed discussed the 2015 incident with Meyer as police investigated the matter. One hundred people have been charged in connection with a large-scale fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, and cocaine trafficking ring that has operated between Cuyahoga and Columbiana counties in Ohio since 2014.According to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, the amount of fentanyl and carfentanil that was allegedly trafficked into the area "was enough to kill every single person in Columbiana County, plus every man, woman, and child in 11 other nearby counties."Investigators say the people charged are responsible for funneling the equivalent of approximately 1 million potentially fatal doses of carfentanil and approximately 350,000 potentially fatal doses of fentanyl into Columbiana County alone.Authorities began serving arrest warrants as part of "Operation Big Oak" on Monday.Three Cuyahoga County men, who are the alleged ringleaders of the operation, are accused of operating the drug ring as part of the “Down the Way” criminal street gang.  The men are all facing multiple charges related to the trafficking of fentanyl and the trafficking of heroin and/or cocaine.A fourth Cuyahoga County man, who was also identified as an alleged ringleader of the organization, is accused of trafficking carfentanil, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine as part of the drug operation.According to investigators, the four suspects allegedly sold the drugs to dozens of mid-level traffickers who then sold the drugs across Columbiana County.A total of 51 alleged mid-level traffickers from Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Tuscarawas, and Mahoning counties are also facing one or more charges related to the trafficking of fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, or cocaine. Forty-five lower-level suspects were also indicted after investigators found that they allegedly contributed to the actions of the drug trafficking organization.Two suspects are charged with felony assault for allegedly exposing East Liverpool Police Officer Chris Green to fentanyl during a May 2017 traffic stop conducted as part of the investigation into this drug trafficking ring. OCEANSIDE, Calif. - A U.S. Border Patrol agent was arrested in North San Diego County on suspicion of possessing heroin and a short-barrel rifle, Oceanside Police reported Tuesday.Officers were patrolling an apartment complex on Los Arbolitos Blvd. where a suspicious person had been reported last week. That's when they reportedly found Brandon Herrera. He was passed out in the driver’s seat of a Ford pickup truck parked on a nearby street, police said.Oceanside Police said they found more than five grams of heroin and a weapon at the scene.The U.S. Border Patrol confirmed with Scripps station KGTV in San Diego it is gathering information about the report.Herrera is due in court April 17. 719
