BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun and Zhou Yongkang, members of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visited a large-scale theme exhibition, "Tibet, the Past and the Present," on Wednesday.     During their separate visits, they were shown around the 160 material exhibits and more than 400 pictures. The exhibition is being held in two halls of the Nationalities Cultural Palace. Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visits a large-scale theme exhibition, "Tibet, the Past and the Present," on Wednesday.Li, who is responsible for the Party's ideological work, said the exhibition exposes the darkness, cruelty and backwardness of Old Tibet and the hypocritical face of the ** Lama as a "human rights guardian," "missionary of peace" and "spiritual leader."     The historic materials show that Tibet has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times, as the Chinese central government has exercised effective sovereign rule over Tibet, said Zhou, the secretary of the CPC Central Committee for Political and Legislative Affairs. Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, visits a large-scale theme exhibition, "Tibet, the Past and the Present," on Wednesday.The senior Party officials all pledged to safeguard the achievements of New Tibet, the happy lives of Tibetans and prosperity, development, harmony and stability in Tibet.     Other senior Party and State officials visiting the exhibition on the same day included Hui Liangyu, Liu Yunshan, Ma Kai, Meng Jianzhu and Du Qinglin.     The exhibition is sponsored by the United Front Department of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council Information Office, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the regional government of Tibet. It will be open to the public between April 30 and July 25,free of charge.

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said here Tuesday that China values its relations with South Africa and would like to work together with the latter to expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation and enhance the understanding and friendship between their peoples.     Wang Gang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Blade Nzimande, secretary general of the South African Communist Party (SACP).     China and South Africa have maintained close high-level visits,frequent exchanges, fruitful cooperation, and coordination in international affairs since their diplomatic relations began in 1998, Wang said. DUSHANBE, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon and Prime Minister Akil Akilov on Saturday pledged to develop all-round cooperation with China while meeting separately with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.     In his meeting with Rakhmon, Yang expressed his gratitude for Tajikistan's aid and support for China's earthquake relief. XIAMEN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's southwestern province of Sichuan needs 1.67 trillion yuan (about 245.6 billion U.S. dollars) for reconstruction after the devastating earthquake on May 12, Huang Xiaoxiang, the province's vice governor, said on Sunday.     "Sichuan is still in need of a large amount of fund despite the efforts of the central government, local governments and other social sectors," Huang told a conference held in Xiamen City, in eastern Fujian Province.     The total funds, including those the central and other provincial governments raised, overseas donations, and lottery earnings, accounted for less than 25 percent of what the reconstruction work demanded. Quake-sufferers carry the re-found living necessities from the shattered houses at the quake-hit area of Huili County, southwest China's Sichuan Province Sept. 3, 2008    Huang said the province would rebuild 4.5 million urban and rural homes, 51,000 km of highways, 5,500 km of railways, 11,700 schools and 9,700 medical institutions.     Apart from that, 2,000 reservoirs, 810 power stations and more than 100,000 hectares of farmland needed to be restored.     The reconstruction work was expected to consume 37 million tonnes of steel, 370 million tonnes of cement, 210 billion bricks and 20 million cubic meters of timer.
