SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A class-action lawsuit against the University of San Diego wants the school to refund students some tuition fees following the move to virtual learning.The lawsuit, filed by two students, claims the college owes students some of their tuition and fees back due to the switch to virtual learning.The suit says that when the school switched to virtual learning in Spring 2020, students were still charged full tuition even though "USD could no longer provide the promised hours of instruction." The lawsuit claimed that USD also increased its tuition on top of that."Similarly, students paid fees for services and access to facilities and equipment over the full semester. Though USD provided these services and facility/equipment access for only part of the semester, and could not provide them for the full semester, USD demanded that students pay fees for the entire semester," lawsuit documents state.A spokesperson for USD told ABC 10News they have not been notified of or served with the lawsuit.The lawsuit is seeking a "prorated portion of the tuition, fees and other related costs, proportionate to the diminished value of online classes and the amount of time in the Spring 2020 and following semesters when USD ceased in-person classes, campus services and access to campus facilities, continuing through to such time as USD reinstates in-person classes" for the two students who filed the lawsuit and "all others similarly situated." 1470

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Clairemont woman says she came home to a break-in and heartbreak.On Friday afternoon at the Balboa Arms condos, Terri Harrison's adult daughter discovered a ransacked home.The intruder likely ripped a window screen before reaching in and unlocking the window.Missing from a bedroom was her daughter's laptop. In the master bedroom, a lock box was emptied of personal documents and some six pieces of jewelry, including a set of pearls belonging to her mom.Both her mother and father passed away two year ago."You wear something that's hers, you feel like she's close to you again ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of San Diegans fighting for rent control is bringing their battle to city leaders this week.The group San Diego Tenants United is calling for city leaders to pass a rent control ordinance to curb the skyrocketing cost of living in San Diego.In a letter to San Diego's Smart Growth & Land Use Committee Chair Georgette Gomez, the group requested a new rent control ordinance and amendment to San Diego's Just Cause Eviction ordinance to prohibit landlords from increasing rents or displacing families.RELATED: San Diego group calling for rent controlThe group believes a permanent ordinance and amendment will slow the rate of increase in local rents and stifle the local housing crises."This can make real, effective changes that can truly fight displacement and gentrification," the letter to Gomez reads. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 74-year-old man reportedly hit a bicyclist with his truck in La Mesa Tuesday before leaving the scene thinking he simply hit a curb, police say. According to police, the crash happened on the 7000 block of University Avenue at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the 74-year-old was driving his 1994 GMC pick-up truck when he turned right onto Harbinson Avenue and struck the 21-year-old bicyclist. Police say the cyclist was in a designated bicycle lane. The man kept driving, thinking he hit a curb, according to authorities. “When contacted by the police the driver of the pick-up truck was shocked to learn that he had hit a bicyclist and cooperated fully with the investigation,” La Mesa Police said in a news release. According to police, the bicyclist appeared to have a broken ankle as a result of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 619-667-1400. 906
