A couple reportedly tried to sneak into an iconic church in San Francisco to get married with dozens of their closest friends and family, and now several in the wedding party have Covid-19.The couple originally planned to marry earlier this year, and rescheduled for early July, multiple media outlets report. The couple planned to marry at Saints Peter and Paul Church, with roughly 100 invited guests. The guests were instructed to enter the church from an underground parking structure. Some of the pews were roped off, presumably to allow for social distancing.Representatives from the San Francisco City Attorney's Office were able to stop many of the guests from going inside the church after spotting them, and told them the event had to be held outside. San Francisco’s coronavirus health guidelines allow up to 12 people to gather outdoors if there's no food or drink. After being told to hold the ceremony outside, a large group moved to a nearby basketball court for the ceremony. Some guests watched the wedding on a video conferencing service from their cars, according to the Chronicle. However, now some are reportedly sick. The bride and groom, as well as at least eight other members of the wedding party tested positive for the coronavirus, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Sunday, citing information from two guests. The San Francisco Archdiocese has already been warned about hosting large events and weddings, according to emails obtained by NBC Bay Area. 1487

A Florida man was arrested after police say he left his 19-month-old daughter outside overnight during Hurricane Irma.Angelo Mitchell, 36, of Jasper, Florida, faces a charge of child cruelty related to the Sunday incident.According to Tallahassee's WCTV, the girl's mother called police Monday morning, telling them Mitchell had taken their daughter away the night before and when she saw him again on Monday, the girl wasn't with him.Police searched the area for the girl but were unable to find her. Mitchell allegedly denied ever taking her, telling officers she was probably with a family friend, according to WCTV.At about 11:30 a.m. local time on Monday, someone found the girl in the yard of a house about 500 yards away.Police said the girl's skin had turned purple after she'd spent the entire night outside during the storm being battered by wind and rain. The girl also had scratches and bug bites on her body, according to WCTV. She was hospitalized for a day before being able to go back home.Mitchell appeared to be "under the influence of something," police reported, according to Tallahassee's WTXL.Clint Davis is a reporter for the Scripps National Desk. A man managed to escape the first eruptive fury of Vesuvius in A.D. 79, only to be crushed beneath a block of stone hurled by an explosive volcanic cloud, new excavations at the site suggest.Archeologists working at the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, Italy, found the man's remains almost 2,000 years after he died.Stunning pictures from the scene show a skeleton pinned beneath the stone. The impact crushed the top of the man's body. His head might still be buried beneath the block of stone.Lesions on the skeleton's tibia are signs of a bone infection that probably hampered the man's escape attempt, archeologists said.Nonetheless, the man, who was at least 30 years old, survived the first phase of the eruption and fled along an alley, probably limping because of his infection. 793

A GoFundMe for a San Diego-area Starbucks barista who refused service to a woman who refused to wear a COVID-19 mask has now surpassed more than ,000.Last Monday, a woman took to Facebook after she said she was turned away at a Starbucks because she was not wearing a mask. At the time, San Diego County required everyone — except for those with health issues — to wear masks while in public."Meet lenen (sic) from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I'm not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption," the woman's post was captioned.Though the woman was upset that she was not served, many on Facebook sided with the barista, Lenin."There's no reason to publicly shame a kid who's trying to work his shift like any other day," one commenter wrote."They are following what they're told. I understand your frustration But it's being at aimed at the wrong people," a second commenter wrote.Another Facebook user, Matt Cowan, was inspired to set up a GoFundMe page to collect tips for Lenin."I set it at ,000, thinking that was a reach, and we would be lucky if we hit like 0. And when we hit 0, I was overwhelmed by that," Cowan told Scripps station KGTV in San Diego last week.By Wednesday, Cowan's campaign had raised more than ,000 tips for Lenin. Over the weekend, funds continued to pour in, and as of Monday afternoon, the campaign had raised more than ,000.In an update posted to the campaign page on Sunday, Cowan reiterated that all of the funds would be going directly to Lenin, and that he had arranged for Lenin to meet with a financial adviser."Lenin has said that he plans to use some of the money to pursue his dreams of becoming a dancer," Cowan said. "He also wants to donate to some organizations in the San Diego community."In a statement last week, Starbucks said that it advises customers to heed advice on mask ordinances set by local governments."We want everyone to feel welcome in our stores. We respectfully request customers follow social distancing and safety protocols recommended by public health officials, including wearing a facial covering when visiting our stores," a Starbucks spokesperson said in a statement to KGTV. "More information on what customers can expect in our stores can be found on our At a Glance page." 2316

A historically active Atlantic Hurricane season is nearing a close, but there appears to be at least one more threat looming in the Caribbean Sea.Hurricane Zeta is currently churning just south of the Yucatan Peninsula with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph — and is currently projected to make landfall on the Louisiana coast later this week. The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch for portions of the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts on Monday. The hurricane watch runs from Morgan City, Louisiana to the Alabama/Mississippi border. The hurricane gained hurricane status Monday afternoon after Hurricane Hunters flew through the storm. In addition to gustier winds, the Hurricane Hunters found Zeta's pressure has dropped. According to the National Hurricane Center's latest update, Zeta is projected to make landfall on the eastern part of the Louisiana coastline on Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning. At that point, officials believe the system will be "at or near hurricane strength."Zeta is the 28th named storm of 2020 — the second-most all-time in a single year. And no region has been targeted more by tropical storms this year than the Louisiana coast. The Louisiana coastline has already been targeted by four major storms this year — Cristobal, Laura, Marco and Delta. The strongest of those storms, Laura, reached category 4 status and caused extensive damage to the Lake Charles area, contributing to 17 deaths in the U.S.According to one NOAA researcher, the Louisiana coast has spent more than three whole weeks in NHC forecast cones this year, by far the most of any region. 1624
