SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - An alleyway in Hillcrest has transformed from dark and dirty to a work of art, and the revision isn’t complete yet.Patric Stillman is the owner of The Studio Door, an art gallery positioned in front of the alleyway. He said artists have been adding their work to the walls of the alleyway and it’s now grown into its own gallery that they’ve dubbed “mural alley.”“This was a pretty grungy space and over the past year we’ve been able to bring in some remarkable local muralists,” said Stillman. While artists continue to work on blank walls in the area, the Hillcrest Business Association is stepping in to take the space to the next level. Benjamin Nicholls, the Hillcrest Business Association Executive Director, said they’re asking the community for donations to fund-raise and add string lights that zig zag across the top of the alleyway.“Hillcrest mural alley is going to become a destination and it’s going to be a creative community destination,” said Nicholls.Nicholls added that in a coronavirus era when activities are safest outdoors, they hope this space will become an outdoor entertainment and event area.Even without the addition of the lights, it’s already catching eyes. Mother daughter duo Brooke and Linda Castro said they were walking to lunch in Hillcrest and noticed the art, then changed their route to walk by it.“We saw this so we decided we needed to walk down the alley to see everything,” said Linda. They said they could envision the space with lights and would welcome the addition because it would highlight the art, but also bring a level of safety.“I think this would become a more popular area just because of the artwork and the lighting,” said Linda.Donations to the project can be made here. Nicholls said the light project will cost about ,500 and any leftover donations will be used to continue adding murals to blank walls in the area. For Stillman, the addition of the outdoor space behind his business is a welcome project during a stressful time.“I think that art always warms our hearts and for a community to have this space, I think is really important in these times that are so challenging,” said Stillman. 2189

San Diego County welcomed its first baby of 2019 at 12:04 a.m. Ainhara Abegail Banos was born at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista at 7 pounds and 14 ounces. The bundle of joy is 20 inches tall. Her mother, Elizabeth Morales, said Ainhara's three older sisters can't wait to meet her. "They're waiting for her!" Morales said. She joked that her other daughters, however, "wanted a boy."Morales thought she would have a quiet New Year's Eve because the baby wasn't due until the middle of January. While at home, Morales' water broke and her sister brought her to the hospital. Even though Morales has three other children, she said she was still nervous. Even for seasoned veterans of the hospital, the first baby of the year is always exciting."I've been doing this for over 30 years. I still get goosebumps every time a baby is born," said Elizabeth Retts, Director of Maternal Health.Morales and the baby will be discharged tomorrow. 949

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Amazon has eclipsed Microsoft as the most valuable publicly traded company in the U.S. as a see-sawing stock market continues to reshuffle corporate America's pecking order. The shift occurred Monday after Amazon's shares rose 3 percent to close at ,629.51 and lifted the e-commerce leader's market value to 7 billion. Meanwhile, Microsoft's stock edged up by less than 1 percent to finish at 2.06, leaving the computer software maker's value at 4 billion. It marks the first time Amazon has held the top spot and ends Microsoft's brief return to the pinnacle after it surpassed Apple in late November .The repositioning has been triggered by mounting concerns that the Trump administration's trade war with China and rising interest rates will bog down the worldwide economy. If that were to happen, it's likely to slow the growth of companies in technology and other industries that generate a substantial chunk of their revenue outside the U.S.That's one reason most technology stocks are well off their peaks. Amazon, for instance, remains 21 percent below its high reached in September when the company's stock value stood above trillion. Apple was worth even more back then, but its stock has plunged by 37 percent since early October to erase about 0 billion of its market value.Apple confirmed some of investors' worst fears last week when it warned that disappointing demand for iPhones, especially in China, caused its revenue for its most recent quarter to fall well below the projections of its management and industry analysts. 1584

SAN DIEGO — The driver of the McLaren sports car involved in a fiery fatal crash on Interstate 805 Thursday has been identified.Trevor Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 sports car that collided with an SUV, killing himself, and a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner. The mother and daughter have yet to be identified. The medical examiner is using an alternative means to identify the bodies because of how badly they were burned, according to the California Highway Patrol.Heitmann was traveling at a high rate of speed heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Dr. before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Rd.The two vehicles collided and exploded into flames, witnesses said, causing a chain reaction of crashes with at least five other vehicles.Heitmann was killed of blunt force trauma and pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner reported. The two occupants of the SUV died due to the fire which engulfed the vehicle after the crash, the report said. It's still not clear why Heitmann was traveling at such a high rate of speed in the wrong direction. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, his driving record was clear.CHP said Heitmann's vehicle was linked to an incident at Ashley Falls Elementary School in Carmel Valley before the crash, in which several students said the driver of a sports car drove through a fence. Del Mar Union School District said the driver got out of the car and broke a window, though no classes were in session.Heitmann is allegedly a popular YouTube personality who goes by the name of "McSkillet," according to numerous gaming website reports.McSkillet's YouTube page lists numerous videos surrounding the video game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive including "skins" or weapon customizations and tips on earning sponsors. One of the videos on McSkillet's page shows off a black McLaren and talks about how his earnings as a YouTube and Counter-Strike "Steam" content producer helped pay for the luxury sports car.Watch the CHP's press conference here:All lanes on northbound I- 805 at La Jolla Village Drive were shut down for about 10 hours due to the investigation and clean-up effort. 2426
