ISLAMABAD, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Acting President and Senate Chairman Farooq Hamid Naek and National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza visited the newly-launched Pakistan-China Friendship Center in Islamabad on Thursday.Naek and Mirza, with the company of Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian, visited the friendship hall, conference rooms and other facilities in the center.They also toured a photography exhibition highlighting the history of the bilateral ties and an exhibition of masterpieces of the Chinese brush painting.In a message left on a guestbook, Naek viewed the friendship center as a symbol of the close friendly brotherly ties between the two countries. BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Remote villages across Yongning County of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region have been connected to a safe water supply thanks to a newly-completed water project.The project, launched in August 2010 and concluded on Nov. 27, has ensured that 100,000 people in 44 villages of Yongning will have access to safe water for drinking.People in the county had long suffered from a severe shortage of safe water because the area's surface water contained excessive amounts of fluorin and iron.The project was initiated after local authorities increased their efforts to provide safe drinking water after Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the region.During an inspection to a well-drilling site at Yuanlin Village of southern Yongning on March 23, 2010, President Hu stressed that efforts be made to ensure more people have access to safe water supplies.

In the article, Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called for an education and practice campaign in 2011 to foster a politically steadfast, professionally competent and impartial law-enforcement force with a superior work style. ASTANA, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, met here Wednesday with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and both sides called for intensified bilateral ties.Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, said during the meeting that bilateral relations have witnessed fruitful development since the two countries established diplomatic ties 18 years ago.China and Kazakhstan have supported each other in such issues concerning their core interests as sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, Jia said.They also have carried out close cooperation under multilateral frameworks of the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, the top adviser said.In addition, Jia said, both sides have kept close communications and coordination on major regional and international issues."Deepening relationship between the two was in line with the basic interests of the people in two countries, and China will work hard with Kazakhstan for a sounder and deeper relationship," Jia said.China and Kazakhstan bear great potential in economic development, and the two sides will further strengthen cooperation in the fields of finance, energy, transportation and tourism, Jia said.Nazarbayev hailed the close high-level contacts and the development of ties after the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2005.He also hailed the ever-deepening pragmatic cooperation that has benefited the two countries.Kazakhstan values the development of its ties with China and stands ready to work together to further enhance exchanges and cooperation in such areas as trade and economy, energy, and security so as to keep promoting their strategic relationship, the president said.Nazarbayev also vowed to intensify cooperation with China under the SCO framework."Since Kazakhstan is now chairing the rotating presidency of the organization, we will try all means to prepare and present a successful summit next year," he said.On the same day, Jia also met with Nurlan Nigmatulin, first deputy chairman of People's Democratic Party "Nur Otan." BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Beijing will adopt tough water management measures in the next five years to ease acute water shortages, according to local water authorities.The measures include setting warning lines for the quantity of water consumption, efficiency of water use and water pollution levels within the metropolitan area, Bi Xiaogang, spokesman with the Beijing Water Authority, was quoted as saying by Monday's Beijing Daily.Local governments would be punished if they missed the targets, he said, adding it was the first time that such measures had been formulated.The measures, which were still being drafted by the municipal government, will be implemented during the first half of 2011, Bi was quoted as saying.Beijing has been plagued by drought for 12 years in a row, during which its per capita amount of water resources has been nearly halved to about 150 cubic meters.With nearly 20 million residents and more than 4.7 million vehicles, the metropolis has a water resource deficit of 400 million cubic meters, although it transferred 320 million cubic meters of water from neighboring Hebei Province last year.
