SAN FRANCISCO, May 6 (Xinhua)-- Latest research released Friday shows that Google Android has become the No.1 smartphone platform in the United States in the first quarter as more smartphone manufacturers have adopted the operating system.During the three months ending in March, Google Android grew 6. 0 percentage points to 34.7 percent market share, among the 72.5 million U.S. smartphone users, reported comScore, an Internet marketing research company.The number of smartphone users increased by 15 percent on a quarter-on-quarter basis, said the research.Research in Motion, developer of Blackberry smartphones, ranked second with 27.1 percent, a slide of 4.5 percentage points on a quarter-on-quarter basis. Samsung ranked as the top handset maker with 24.5 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers, and LG ranked second with 20.9 percent share, followed by Motorola (15.8 percent) and RIM (8.4 percent). Apple continued to gain share following the launch of the Verizon iPhone, growing by 1.1 percentage points to 7.9 percent of subscribers.On mobile content use, 68.6 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device in March. Browsers were used by 38.6 percent of subscribers (up 2.2 percentage points), while downloaded applications were used by 37.3 percent (up 2.9 percentage points).Accessing of social networking sites or blogs increased 2.6 percentage points, representing 27.3 percent of mobile subscribers. BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhuanet) -- A new study has found that rejection can literally hurt in the same way as physical pain does, according to media reports Tuesday.Researchers found that intense emotional pain, such as feelings of rejection after a breakup of a relationship, can trigger brain activities similar to when people suffer physical pain.The research findings were published in Tuesday's Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.The study followed 40 volunteers who experienced unwanted romantic breakups in the past six months, and the researchers analyzed their brain activity during two "painful" situations.The results showed that the two situations, thinking about the loss of their ex-partner and experiencing mild physical pain similar to holding a very hot coffee cup, caused response in the overlapping parts of the brain."This tells us how serious rejection can be sometimes," said study author Edward E. Smith, director of cognitive neuroscience at Columbia University. Smith added. "Our ultimate goal is to see what kind of therapeutic approach might be useful in relieving the pain of rejection."

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to push the decade-long Doha Round negotiations for a final success, Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said here on Saturday.Speaking at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Mini-Ministerial Meeting which brought together representatives from over 20 major trading powers, Chen said that China is ready to collaborate with other WTO members in a practical and proactive manner so as to draw a successful conclusion of the Doha Round talks by the end of 2011.A rapid conclusion of the negotiations, Chen said, will be beneficial to global economic recovery, which is to the interest of all.The commerce minister acknowledged the year 2011 as a "window of opportunity," albeit a narrow one."China will give support to the roadmap proposed by WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy," he said, adding that the country is willing to act vigorously to push forward the negotiation process.To ensure that an early final deal could be in reach, Chen said, parties should set goals in a practical manner, in accordance with the ambition level, and stick to what has been achieved as well as the Doha Development Agenda (DDA), while focusing primarily on pending issues.Held on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum, the WTO Mini-Ministerial Meeting is an annual event under the auspices of the Swiss Federal Government.Chen on Friday also joined discussions with his counterparts from the emerging club -- India, Brazil and South Africa, before attending the trade G7 meeting, consisting of Australia, Brazil, China, the European Union, India, Japan and the United States.
