BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Zhou Yongkang said here Friday that China-South Africa relations have never been so good.Zhou, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks when meeting with South African Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel.Hailing South African President Jacob Zuma's visit to China in August, Zhou said bilateral cooperation in trade and economy, culture, justice and security had maintained sound momentum.During Zuma's visit, the two countries signed the Beijing Declaration, in which they announced the establishment of the "comprehensive strategic partnership" and mapped out cooperative framework over the next 10 to 15 years.Zhou said he hoped China and South Africa could further implement consensuses reached by leaders of the two countries.Manuel, also in charge of South Africa's National Planning Commission , said he was responsible for the next 15-year plan of South Africa's development, and hoped to learn more from China's success in development.Zhou said China was willing to expand exchanges with South Africa in this regard, as China was working on formulating the 12th Five-year Plan (2011-2015).China became South Africa's largest export destination at the beginning of 2009, and remained South Africa's largest import partner.

GUANGZHOU, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Devastating mud-slides triggered by historic rainfalls were blamed for the heavy casualty toll -- 70 dead and 65 missing -- in south China's Guangdong Province when typhoon Fanapi battered the region earlier this week, a government report said Saturday.The loss caused by mud-flows and landslides in Guangdong's mountainous western region is "very serious", said a disaster assessment report conducted by provincial disaster relief authorities. BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya made solemn representations to Japanese ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa on Sunday evening to express strong indignation and protest against Japan's prolonged detention of a Chinese skipper."The incident created by the Japanese side has severely damaged China-Japan relations," said Wang, stressing how the situation develops completely depends on what choices the Japanese side will make.The Japanese authorities on Sunday afternoon extended the detention of the captain to Sept. 29.Two Japan Coast Guard patrol ships and the Chinese fishing boat collided in waters off the Diaoyu Islands on Sept. 7. The Japanese side illegally seized the Chinese trawler and fishermen, and continued to illegally hold the Chinese captain despite firm protests by the Chinese side.Wang warned China will take strong counter measures if the Japanese side fails to release the Chinese captain immediately and unconditionally."Japan shall bear all the consequences that arise," he noted.Sources with the Foreign Ministry said earlier Sunday China had already suspended bilateral exchanges at and above the provincial or ministerial levels, halted contact with Japan on the issues of increasing civil flights and expanding aviation rights between the two countries.A bilateral meeting on coal has also been postponed.In the mean time, the number of Chinese citizens traveling to Japan as tourists has already declined.
